Launched out of Skull Island around 2:00 p.m. A bit overcast initially, but cleared later in the day. Started by using my favorite technique; Jerkbaits in general and Pointers in particular. Caught 5-6 shorts but couldn't get the big bite. Ran over to the chunk rock around the power lines and pitched a black/blue 3/16 oz. jig and managed 2 keepers,(both just over 15"). Ended up fishing docks with the jig and pulled in a nice 18" LM. Estimated total weight of all three fish was around 7-7 1/2 lbs. If you guys have never used a Netbait Paca Craw as a trailer, you need to. My success in the jig has easily doubled since I swithched from a Zoom Super Chunk. Gonna run up to the Grasshopper/Sale Creek area tomorrow.

The Yum chunk, available in 2.75" & 3.25", is another great jig trailer. Before switching, I used Zoom Lil Critter craws because of their realistic look but didn't get nearly as many jig bites as I do now. Maybe it is a confidence thing...or the scent. I'm not sure what is in Yum, but big bass really like it.

Pointer, did you see many active/schooling bass up there in the mid lake area? Much activity near Sequoyah? Do you know what the water temp was up there? Do you ever fish the stumps where the channel from Skull Island, Ware Branch and other channels hit the main river? I didn't know whether the fish are active there this time of year. Were most of your fish on the main river channel or were they back in the sloughs? Down here in Wolftever and Harrison bay, most of the shallow fish are shorts but the bigger fish seem to be off deeper drops ofshore or at least near deep water. Later I think that the bigger fish will move shallower.

Surprisingly, there was very little surface activity. I didn't fish any main lake areas except for the power line area across from the power plant. Surface temps ranged from 70 to 74 degrees.

Now.....off to the lake.
