Two firsts for me this year on the chick, a black duck, and a goldeneye. Ive never seen a goldeneye till this morning. I wonder how common they are around these parts? I know they use the mississippi river sometimes, but dont know about this area. Missed several groups of bufflehead and 1 mallard this morning with only 1 duck to show for. There were 4 or 5 guys spread out in front of island cove just hammering them. Seen more divers than mallards.

Thanks! Went this morning and only killed a greenhead. Saw 9 mallard, 15 bufflehead, and 12 gadwall. Only shot 1 time, and so did the guy down the way from me. Would have had a descent season if not for my crappy shooting!emoBigsmile oh well, theres always next year.

Yea kolb, i had the "bird stuffer" pick it up today. His name is Kermit Cartwright, he used to work with shane smith years ago. Just by looking at his website, his mounts look just like shanes, But at almost half the cost. He is a real nice guy, and has alot of experience in taxidermy. When i get it back i will post pictures. Oh yea and by the way spur, Goldeneye's prefer chicken liver over skipjack.;)

I used to kill Goldeneyes quite regularly in the `80`s and early `90`s when I hunted religiously. Cherokee, Douglas and Watts Bar. Seemed like they just kinda went way though and we saw an increase in Buffle heads..Then Bluebills in the late 90`s....Seems kinda like they shift their migration patterns between the different species over time.

I definatley saw more buffleheads this year than i ever have. The last week of the season i saw 30 or so just in one group. I bet ya the next 3 weeks is when ya will see a large majority of birds come through. There's still alot of open water up in kentucky. I cant believe the season is allready over!

Goldeneyes are not common, but I see (or hear) a few every year. Of course all ducks wings' "whistle" as they fly to a certain extent, but goldeneyes are exceedingly loud. I've heard whistling wings from goldeneyes a hundred or more yards away... and I don't hear very well. They are beautiful. Of course yours is a hen.... here's a drake I killed on Chickamauga 3 or 4 years ago.
