Went out this morning and put in at Wolftiever. Got to the ramp about 930am and started fishing around 1000am. I know this is a little late but couldn't get out of bed. It's getting cold and I'm not acclimated. Anyway, fished all over Wolftiever and only caught 2 fish. They were good fish in the 2lb range. I tried a little bit of everything, but mainly stayed with the finesse worm. I fished points, channels, and even flipped to some brush. Besides the two fish, I only had maybe two more quality bites that I missedemoBang . Water temp was about 60 when I got there, and warmed up to about 65 by 230pm. Crappie fishermen were everywhere wearing them out. I've caught fish in the heat of the summer, and have never struggled like this. I was catching 15 to 20 a day this time last year. Does anybody know what's up?

sbrannon, I would have expected that the fishing would be slow on the Chick. With the water temp dropping more than ten degrees in the last week, remember when I posted that the water temp early last week at the end of the day was 78 degrees, I would have expected some lock jaw. To counter act this, I would plan to fish the main lake, as it has more volume and so therefore will change it's temp less than the creek. I would also plan to fish current as the fish tend to be more active in current areas when the water cools until it's much cooler. I would also plan to fish the late afternoons especially if it is sunny as the water will warm up a lot every day, sometimes up to 10 degrees in areas where the water has some stain to it. The ends of deeper points that come close to the creek channel could also be places where the fish might stack up. If you know of an area where the fish were last week, I'd check the steep drops and outside creek bends. I would use my electronics to find baitfish and then try to find good drops with stumps with the maps or brush piles or at least lay downs near by. I would expect that the bait moved out towards the creek mouth with the dropping water and the dropping temp. Late in the day there is a chance that the bass will fire up and push some bait shallow and really blast them but until the water temp and the water level becomes consistent for a few days, I would expect it to harder to catch fish. I would use some crankbaits over the drops first or a spinner bait and if the fish weren't in the chasing mood I'd try a jig or plastic worm. If they won't hit regular sized baits, I would downsize to 1/4 oz spinnerbaits with #4 or smaller willow leaf blades. Downsizing to 4 inch worms also is a possibility. If all else fails, throw a cast net, get some shad and go to outside bends of the river channel, and fish along the steep drops in water that drops quickly into the channel and catch whatever is there, there will be active fish there, whether they be stripe, crappies, bass, or catfish. One of these days I expect to catch a big striper in one of those areas 'cause there is so much bait stacked there. This is what I plan to do Monday when I get out with a buddy of mine. Does anyone else have a plan that they would try?

Dang! Has the temp already dropped that much ... all work and no fish is making me a VERY dull boy. I'm hoping to get out Sun afternoon ... I'm about to fish all over myself!!
