Man oh man are the ramps crowded, but I guess you all know that. I got out on Saturday the 2nd with my good friend Mike. We put in just at day break and my plan was to target spots that I hoped were on the bed. We fished mostly rip rap and managed only 6 bass all day. Water temps started at 63 and we saw some 68 degree water at the end. We fished until about 3:00 pm. We did run up into Chester Frost and into Wolftever and tried the rock bank across from the boat ramp and went up to the fishing club but that was all no good. The six fish we did manage to catch were all on finesse worms t'rigged and were good quality fish, no kickers but good 2 1/2 to 3 1/2.
I then went out with my wife for about 5 hours in the middle of the day on Sunday so she could relax and catch some rays. I didn't really plan on catching anything given Saturday's results and we didn't get on the water until 12:30 pm or so. I went to the back of a slough and just started casting. I surprised myself by catching a bass in really shallow water. I then managed to catch 7 to go with that one. I had a few really nice fish. One that would go about 4 and another solid 3. These fish were real shallow so evidently there are still some fish on the beds on the Chick. Water temps ranged from 67 to as much as 72 in very shallow water. I broke a real good fish off on a C'rig. The 8 I caught all came on T-rigged worms since I didn't have any more C'rig gear in the bare minimum tackle I brought along on Sunday's trip. The wife and I had a good time, I enjoyed of course catching some good fish and was really surprised. Just goes to show you, two guys fished hard from prime time early until 3:00 pm on Saturday and had 6 fish. One guy (me) just casually throwing to kill time on Sunday catches 8 in 5 hours just messing around. Fishing is just unpredictable. The moral of this story is we should always go fishing when we get the chance, you never know what will happen. Oh well, good time getting out. I hope you all are safe and healthy. Be sure and stock up on patience when you plan on launching and retrieving a boat. Our boat ramps are zoos, out of this world. Sunday I sat in line waiting to retrieve my boat while an older couple pulled up and stopped on the ramp while they got everything secured and put away!!!! :-( I honestly think a lot of people just don't know any better or maybe just don't care about the next person. You see a lot of evidently new people to boating who don't know how to back a trailer. I just try to stay calm and remember that we all had to learn at one time and if I don't give grace I won't get any when I need it!
