Had a hard time deciding if I wanted to either brave the crowd on the Chick on Memorial Day or as it turned out brave the rain. At the last minute I decided to take a chance and go for it in spite of the forecast. I got on the water around 7:00 am and ran to a point close to the Dam. Nothing much happening. Tried a few docks and on the third one I caught a solid 3lb LM off the end of the dock on a T rigged Green Pumpkin finesse worm. About 9 or so it started raining and I moved to Harrison Bay and fished some rocky banks. I picked up two more twins of the first fish all on the finesse worm and thought well this isn't too bad. 9 lbs or so in three fish. I moved down the bank and picked up my fourth keeper a very healthy acrobatic very dark colored 2 lb spot! The rock bite died and i moved to a slough with wood and grass. I caught three more fish, two on a C-rigged june bug worm and one on the t-rig green pumpkin. It rained pretty much the whole time and got pretty hard so rather than try to run back to the ramp at the Dam I just drifted in the wind and fished but the bite seemed to die while I waited the hard rain out. About 3:00pm the rain slacked off and I made the run back to the ramp, By then the wind had it whitecapping and there was a stream of big cruisers headed to the dam. Fun, fun getting beat to a pulp in my Lowe tin boat but all in all a pretty good day. I boated 7 bass - 4 solid keepers but no kicker fish - 3 fish that went 13 to 14" and lost at least 3 other smaller fish at the boat. The rain did keep a lot of people off the lake which I was glad for. Water temps were 79 degrees, water clarity was very good with visibility to 5 feet or more. The fish seemed to prefer green pumpkin. I didn't see any top water activity, maybe the rain kept the bait down. Had a good time, enjoyed my day off and spent some time thinking of the sacrifices that has been made and are being made every day so that we can be free. I'm thankful for our military and our first responders, God Bless them.
