I decided to get out Sunday afternoon after church, it was a pretty day for sure - not so hot. As soon as I launched from Harrison Bay I knew it wasn't going to be the kind of evening I had hoped for. I should have went to a movie or go eat with my wife because the theaters and restaurants had to be empty since everyone was on the lake . I also quickly figured out that I was in the wrong boat as I took my little Lowe (nickname Lil Pokey) cause it stays loaded and ready to go in the garage. It was like the ocean out there, I wanted to run to the dam to fish the intakes and it was a very rough ride. I got there finally and the fish were not there. I got a few hits and managed to hook one small spot that came off at the boat. Another thing I hadn't counted on was the wind strength - it was blowing pretty good. Anyway after spending an hour or so fishing the intakes I moved to a slough not far away where there is some wood in deeper water. Still no luck. Finally made the bumpy run back to Harrison Bay and went into Wolftever. Fished around for a while and managed to actually get a bass in the boat emoLaugh emoLaugh . Not that it matters but I was fishing finesse worms and the water clarity was good with a temp of around 86 degrees. If you've read this far you may think I'm a whiner and I'm really not, I was and still am glad I got out --- it was just really crowded with lots of wake boats throwing really big wakes and lots of people skiing and tubing and lots of families enjoying the lake which is a good thing. What isn't a good thing is the increase in people who don't really have a clue about water safety and common courtesy. I was fishing a bank in the narrow section of Wolftever. I was over close to the bank so that all the pleasure boaters and jet skis would have plenty of room to run. I decided to leave and climbed on the back deck to stow some items. I looked up and a big bow rider was headed straight for me. It turned and went between my boat and the bank. I just stood there in amazement and as they passed most of the people in the boat waved and one actually asked if I was all right (I guess I looked so amazed they didn't know what to make of it). These people were / are not bad people - I'm convinced they just don't know any better. I also saw two different groups of people pulling very young (ages 4 through maybe 7 or 8) kids in a tube in crowded Wolftever without any adult or even teen in the tube with the little kids. Maybe I'm overly cautious but I just cringe when I see stuff like that. I think what could happen if the kids fell out with so much boat traffic around. Also little kids can easily come out of a life jacket. Oh well it was a very pretty evening to be on the water. Everyone please be careful when you are out and look out for the other guy ---- cause they may not know they even need to be looking out for anything emoEnforce .
