Hey guys, I am looking for some help on selecting the size trolling motor I should have. We have an old 22' deck boat that weights 2300 lbs dry without the engine so I am guessing with the engine, fuel, family and gear it will probably weight 3800-4000 lbs. Do they make trolling motors for such a barge? I would like a bow mount and guess the bow has +/-30" of freeboard. How long of a shaft should would it require? I would ike to find an old fishing boat to buy but until the job market picks up I am going to make this boat a jack of all trades. emoLaugh Thanks for any help.

I like your thinking Kevin. ;)
I would buy the biggest baddest t-motor you can afford. As far as length, you want to get at least 12" under the surface to avoid cavitation. I would also suggest an electric steer, for your boat so you dont have to be on the bow all the time. I bought a Motorguide 55lb digital remote and I love it for my boat. I also have a heavy boat, and it will cruise along no problem.

We need to get juggy again Kevin. I think we will try a creek up by your house next time, I hear teh flatties roam over there. emoThumbsup
