Polo Dog's trip to Pickwick Lake last week has brought up the subject of using circle hooks for bass. I used to live in Dunlap and fished with Simms for cats several times below Chickamauga Dam. His use of circle hooks there taught me their value for bait fishing. I now live about 45 minutes north of Pickwick Lake and fish below those dams for bass. So, my question at this time is how are circle hooks for bass fishing e.g. when using live shad as bait and drifting with the current as Polo Dog did?

They're excellent! emoBigsmile

FYI, depending upon the size of the live bait I have, I always use the smallest hook possible. That allows the baits to swim freely and look more natural.

I have a dumb question or maybe just a silly one because I used to tell the guys that worked for me that the only dumb question was the one you did not ask. I have always heard that the main reason for using circle hooks is better and easier hook ups. So would they work on soft plastic. I put one on the other day to throw a senko or a trick worm on wack style. This is where you are letting it free fall or is it just a bad idea.
