What is the best way to clean and then treat cork handles?

Coach I use cheap shampoo and a small nylon bristle brush. Most of the oils on cork handles are from our hands so shampoo works great. That will get it clean.

<font color="#ff0033">All right coach....pay attention.....get one of your wife's scotpad from the kitchen sink and some hot soapy water in the sink.....lightly scrub the cork then rinse off..and dry it with one of her dish towels.Just don't let her see it......or take sandpaper and lightly sand the handle....both will work....I know, I have been doing it for 30 years.....FA

Original GOJO works well too and much easier. Just don't use the kind with the pumice. Wipe it on with your hand and rub it in then wipe off with paper towel.

After you clean them,rub them down with vinyl floor polish.

You can polish the cork handles by wrapping your hand around them for about a day.

Another recommendation is to apply a coating of the Original Armor All after a light sanding with polishing cloth. Let it dry then repeat. It helps seal out moisture and protect the cork. Make sure to use the Original cause that slick stuff may have you watching your combo sail through the air on your next cast.emoBigsmile

IMO, why bother, they are just going to get dirty again. Besides it shows how much character your grips have.

I have read to use a fresh brillo pad to clean the cork and a light coating of armor all to slow down discoloration.

Coach, I saw ALL your rods yesterday and noticed that they were all practically NEW! Or at least new. But my .02, I have used Dawn diswashing liquid on my golf grips for years. The oil from your hands is one thing, but it's the dead skin that get's on there. The Dawn is mild enough to not degrade the rubber and I would imagine it would do the same for cork. However, when I recently had one of my rod's serviced by FA, he did his technique on mine and I must say, it's like brand new. And being that he's an old fart... he's had years of practice screwing them up. He probably knows the best way! emoPoke I love ya FA!
