The Coast Guard Auxiliary were out at the ramps this weekend doing boat checks. I'm glad they volunteer their time to try to make folks aware of boater safety.............But.... they don't need to become argumentative when they are mistaken about required safety equipment. When I told him a fire extinguisher was not required on my boat, he wanted to take an attitude with me lol. I have a 16'Mako Skiff. The fuel tank is a 6 gallon portable tank that sits in the bottom of the boat. A fire extinguisher is NOT required on board. Both the dealer and TWRA have confirmed this to me. These guys need to brush up on the regulations before arguing with folks at the boat ramp.

You should experience an offshore USCG and FL Wildlife Resources Inspection with Fish onboard... Are your Flares in date and are there any onboard that are expired?

We got checked at riverpark by them one time, they were nice but also very official. They give you a stamp of approval with a date which I wish TWRA would do.
One of the TWRA guys told me that you could actually refuse to be checked by the coast guard and not get in trouble?

Several years ago when I pulled a bassboat to Clearwater Beach, Florida, I was stopped and checked 4 times in one week by the USCG, FWC and County Sheriff. I guess I stuck out like a sore thumb out there in a bassboat with TN numbers.

The boat checks are a courteously. However they should actually know the regs before arguing with folks.

Now that you mentioned it I guess my big TN # stood out as well.. I was prepared for them, which was most likely a surprise for them.... I think I saw one actually scratching his Noggin as he pillaged my boat.</p>
