I was invited to fish in the Coke tournament and fished with one heck of a guy and we are planning on doing it again next year.

We ran up river to try and take advantage of the moving water. Stopped just below the bend and right away we both started catching small spots on the Zara puppy. Since i only ever fish one bait(beetlespin understands,) i picked up the jig and flipped a few times. on the reel in, i got bit by a 2.48 spot. went about 2 hours without another keeper. moved around several times, the fish just were not where we usually catch them. finally caught keeper number 2 down below suck creek, 2.78 spot. Stayed up river hitting area after area trying to get some keepers. did catch one more 12 in spot but tournament was only taking 15 in fish.

Finally made a big move back down below the pumping station and got out a rat. Figuring that all the big mats had been beat to a foam, i try to pick and choice the smaller mats in decent water. caught 2 keepers, one being 2.86 and another 2 lber. had 5 more kisses that did not take it. all that in a hours time of fishing and moving from mat to mat. I was figuring the rat bite must have been on so i was expecting 20 lbs to win. I think if i would have moved down river 1 hour earlier i could have caught a few more good fish but ,hindsight, i hate it!

ended up finishing 2nd with 4 fish 9.48.

We had a lot of fun and i would like to thank Coke for putting on the tournament, feeding us, and all the great door prizes. Also like to thank Rick Camp for getting it all together. i met Rick a couple of years ago and he is a class act!

Must have not been Beetlespin? emoEvil

Just kidding of course!!!

Rick's a good guy. Does his homework. Good job guys with the foggy conditions and cool temps.

Great report. There is nothing like reeling in 2 1/2 to 3lb spots! Sounds as if one more fish would have put you on top.

yes my biggest spot ran to the middle of the river jsut like a drum , i think i that might have even told my partner that it was a drum before i saw it. I really wish i could have got one more keeper but i did a lot better than I thought I would have and on a tough day i will take it. Something about getting a limit though.
