What is the best budget friendly cold weather rain gear? I have a Huk suit for the summer but looking to get something for cold weather.

Guide wear but they're not cheap. You'll want the black set, red will get dirty fast and most likely won't come clean. Black Friday sales is the best time to buy.

Ive got a Jacket and Bibbs that I was told used to be issued to TWRA as the jacket and bibbs are coast guard approved flotation also, they are Extra Large and brand new, I bought them at a yard sale and they still had the tag on them. They are old school camo pattern and are just to big for me. They should be pretty warm since they are esentially a life vest suit.

I think through the years I have had everything except Simms. I've had Frog Toggs, GuideWear, Pro Bass Shops Pro Qualifier, which was good, then Pro Bass Shops 100MPH suit and it was good. The new Bass Pro Shop 100MPH suit that came out this fall is a much cheaper version of their older suit. There is no way I would even consider buying this new 100MPH suit. Not only is it a cheaper version of the suite but they actually went up about $30.00 each on the bibs and the parka! I am now using the AFTCO insulated bibs and parka for my winter fishing and so far I really like them. But I'll say this about the all rain wear brands out there, in my opinion there is not a really good warm and dry suit out there for less than about $550 - $600. The really good ones are all about the same price and are not cheap or budget friendly! And regardless of the brand name, getting a really good quality suit that will last more than a year or two without leaking is a very good investment. There isn't much of anything worse than trying to fish wearing a cold, leaky, wet rain suit and being miserable the entire time. My advice to anyone is don't rush out and buy a cheaper version that you will soon be unhappy with and have you back at square one shopping for another suit again. Save your money, bite the bullet and get yourself a good quality product.

Earl speaks the truth emoThumbsup When I first started really bass fishing I went the cheap way many times cause I didn't have the money for a quality cold weather rain suit. They work for a while but after a few minutes of really hard rain and especially after some age they leaked and it wasn't fun. I have some Columbia light rain jackets and pants that I can layer over sweatshirts and jeans if it isn't too cold. I have a set of the insulated Guidewear (zip in liner for the parka) that is very good. Layering is great if you know you will need to take off some layers but if you know you're going to be out in miserable, very cold weather all day I like having fewer pieces of clothing to put on and deal with. Quality gear is too expensive in my opinion but what are we going to do -- you either pay the price or make do with lesser quality.

My 16 yr old insulated Guidewear still work like day 1. I did wash them, once, by the instructions, and ran them through with Nikwax to restore the water repellency. My summer set is also Guidewear, just uninsulated. Like many already said quality is not inexpensive, and cold and/or wet does not make for a good day on the lake.

I ended up purchasing the Magellan pro fish parka and bibs from academy. They were $130 per piece. They had really good reviews and the good part about it is if they're not good and leak I kept the receipt and just go get my money back. If I fished a couple of times a week and traveled fishing tournaments I would have invested in guidewear but unfortunately I don't have the budget for that. I will post a review whenever I have a chance to use them.
