I just bought a Runcl 6.5Ft collapsible fishing rod Mecury. Anyone used before? I was wondering if this rod would ever break bringing in a bass? Lol
How reliable are collapsible fishing rods? Any advice is appreciated. TY

Back in the early 90's I seriously considered buying an Allstar collapsible model 7'6" flipping stick but worried it would collapse on a hook set so I bought a one piece model instead.

I still have the rod and the original ABU Garcia Ambassadeur reel and use both quite often.

I have 2 Shimano 7’6” rods that collapse. It’s only about two feet of rod that goes inside of the handle. They work good with everything that I’ve used them for. I’ve thrown buzz baits to swim baits on them with zero issues.

I have an older Quantum telescopic rod that I haven't used that much but they should not break . Mine is a flipping stick so it was designed to haul in big fish

i have one of the original Browning silaflex 7.6 Flipping stick. I still use it and have never had any issues ( i cant use it all day as i think it weighs 15-20lbs....lol that's what it feels like anyway. my dad bought 2 of then in the late 70's early 80's and i have used it since then.

I don't have a collapsible rod but I do use a 7' 3 piece MH Fast travel rod from Bass Pro. I travel a decent amount and wanted something I could throw into the overhead bin of a plane. One of the first trips I took it on was down to Orlando. I was skeptical about the durability but that all changed after the first day. It hauled in a 6+ LM and several 3's and 4's. I bring it on trips all the time now and it's still going strong.

like multiple segments collapsible? or the old "telescoping" where the blank slides into the handle. i have several telescoping rods and they have all hauled a big fish or 2 in at some point or another :)

I have had a telescoping G-loomis flipping stick for several years it is amazing down on Big G pulling in bass and grass. I fished as a co angler and after one tournament down there on a stormy day I was loading all my stuff up I collapsed it to get it in the car. I got home and was so wore out I just carried everything in and put it in the room. A few days later I went to clean everything up and when I extended the rod the part that was inside the handle and it oxidized the rod. I was worried but that was over four years ago and it is still performing great just not as pretty.

i have 6 lews...2 Lamniglass and 2 allstars..they are all 7' 2"...never had any problems..i prefer collaspible

only issues I've ever had with a multi-piece or collapsible rod is if the segments are pulled/pushed tightly together or they get off center somehow. I've only ever had one break and that was because the top part of the rod wasn't pushed into the seat all the way.
