I just wanted to share a little bit of information with you guys about college bass fishing. Most people don't realize this but it is serious business! These guys can fish. Most tournaments are taking between 15 & 25 lbs. to win. Competitive Collegiate Bass Fishing is a fast growing sport among colleges across the nation. Each week schools around the country are starting Bass Fishing teams and clubs. Currently, two major championships are being held, as well as a number of Invitational and head-to-head matches. There are also several multi-event collegiate tournament trails being established. The increased interest in collegiate bass fishing has sparked interest from major media coverage organizations such as Fox College Sports, ESPN, and The Outdoor Channel in addition to numerous articles in major publications and internet exposure.
My club is the Georgia Southern Bass Anglers is a non-profit, student ran club at Georgia Southern University. Our club was founded in early 2008 by several students. Since our beginning the club has tripled in size. This spring and summer we competed in several tournaments resulting in one 3rd place finish (our highest yet). The Southern Bass Angler’s purpose is to promote the sport of bass fishing, through sportsmanship, and conservation. We are currently competing in two collegiate fishing series, Auburn University’s Southern Collegiate series and FLW’s South Eastern Regional Championship.
Auburn’s Southern Collegiate Series has three regular season events and a championship. The three regular season events will be held on Neely Henry Lake, Guntersville Lake, Wheeler Lake, and the championship will be fished on Wilson Lake (all these lakes are located in Northern Alabama).
FLW’s series will be fished all over the southeast. Beginning in February we will be sending a team to each event in hopes of qualifying for the national championship on St. Johns River in Florida. The winning team will receive a new Ranger Bass Boat and have $25,000 donated to their respective school. These events will be held on Lake Okeechobee in Florida, Santee Cooper in South Carolina, Lake Wheeler in Alabama, and Lake Guntersville in Alabama, the series will conclude in October 2009.

I hope you guys will come to an event and watch the weigh ins we are just beginning and it can only grow from here. also here is a schedule of our tournaments.

My aunt's godson was on the Indiana University bass squad. He said he learned more during those two years than he had his whole life. I think It's great. Just wish they had that back when I was in college some odd years ago.

I was also on the Indiana University team for 4 years (98-02). IU was the first bass club started and most of the Big Ten schools followed. We had a Big Ten Championship every year along with the "Old Minnow Bucket" tournament against Purdue. It was a lot of fun. I was president my senior year and made a lot of great contacts while doing it. Does UTC have a club?

I have been considering being the coach if interest continues to be garnered at University of Alabama-Huntsville (my alma mater), been approached by a few folks. I'll be honest, if I am their coach, we will suck!!

Yep... Churly and myself would have given them boys a run for their money!

I sure wished they would have had this when he and I were n school together.

UT-K has a club in there second year. If you have the last FLW magazine there is a double page picture of some of them toward the front of the mag. Our club gave `em some money last year cause they don`t get anything from the school for some reason. FLW and some other large groups have stepped in this year with some big time help for all schools I think. Probably really going to take off big time soon.
Got to meet some of the the last couple of years and nice bunch of youg men.

I`d say the Tennessee boys would just put a big whuppin` on you Ga . Southern Boys !!!!

it's alot of fun. We have fundraisers and volunteer with a fishing rodeo every year. Last year when the pros came to Clark Hill we all got to go up there and volunteer we got passes to everything including the pre tournament meeting. hey snuffy as far as them Tennessee boys they better watch it's hard to outfish a georgia boy!

wmaples...... I'll do the talking for team TN, since Travis isn't doing his part in speakin up for us... remember who weighed fish in at Neely Henry? It was good to see you boys and lookin forward to Guntersville soon. ps. team G3 is the way to go.

Let me brag on that G3 a little. Originally I had a 03' but it started taking on alot of water. After looking over it real well I found hair line cracks all in the hull. So I took it to Nichol's Marine and they sent pics back and forth to G3 and 2 weeks later I went and picked my new 08' for FREE!!!!!!!! same motor but new boat. G3 said they didn't want that old boat on the water anymore. so They melted it back down. can you believe that? I got it 3 days before the guntersville tourney lastyear.
