As the dust settles from the weekend, I have tried to put in words how the event went and I don't think anything I can say would do it justice. I just got off the phone with Bill Taylor, Senior Tournament Director for FLW and he said... Shane I have been at this for a lot of years and we have done every type of benefit tournament you could imagine for great causes but nothing compares to this event. It was truly one of the most humbling and rewarding days of my life.
The participation and support from the fishing community was unbelievable. The tireless effort from Rhea County And Dayton city Police, Homeland Security, Fire Department, The National Guard, County Commissioners, FLW and so many others made this day possible.
I figured some of the checks from the fisherman would get donated back, but to see every single team that placed in the money hand all 46 checks back to the families was truly incredible. That increased the amount raised by more than $15,000. We still have donations coming in so we aren't ready to announce a final number but we have currently raised more than $45,000 for the families of the fallen servicemen.
Here is a link to the complete results of the tournament. As you can see the lake was tough on just about everybody and less than half the teams weighed fish. We ended up with 258 boats that fished the tournament and only had 5 fish not released.
