I am about to purchase a couple of Shimano rods and I was wondering what everybody thought about the Compre and the Crucial. Is there that much difference between the two? I don't mind shelling out a few extra bucks if the Crucials really are superior, but I figured I'd get some input from some folks before I made a decision.

The crucials are great rods. They are better feeling than the compres but the compres are nice rods for their price range also and with a great over the counter warranty you can't go wrong with either. Very light and responsive. If your down chattanooga ways you can try out my crucials if you want too. I have a mixture of diff crucial models including crucial cranking rods. I don't think you will be disappointed with the crucials.

10 Total myself. Everything from Reels to Rods is Shimano.

The Crucials are SWEET! Got 3 in the collection.

Crucials are the closest thing to a G Loomis that you can get and the warranty is even better. They are lighter and more sensitive than the Compre. Either rod is good though.

Maybe that is because Shimano owns G Loomis and is using the same mandrels, just overseas labor. I believe some of the G Loomis are now being built overseas too.

I hope the quality stays and doesn't go south like so many have like All Star. I've had G Loomis rods for years and believe they are second to none. Shimano has owned G Loomis for a couple years now and I have not seen any difference in quality yet.

Even tho shimano owns g loomis they have nothing to do with the rods shimano makes. They are not the same blanks and g loomis still does their own thing apart from shimano. I like the crucials alot better than g loomis rods and I have four g loomis rods sitting here that i never use anymore.

Are the G Loomis rods that you have IMX or GLX. If not their GL2's and 3's are not as good as the Crucials.

I had two glx's (already sold them) and still got two imx's and one gl3 and one loomis spinnerbait rod. I know they cost more than the crucials but i prefer the feel of the crucials over the loomis. Just personal taste. I really like the crucial tc4 cranking rod i got in heavy action with a medium fast tip. You would think a heavy action rod wouldn't be good for cranking but the material the blank is made of provides a very nice bend and action in the rod for crankbaits. It's 7'2" and is lighter than any other rod i own or have owned.

Wow I didn't think there was any rod better than a GLX or IMX. That speaks volumes for the quality of the Crucials.

I have both and cannot really tell the difference. If you can tell the different in an oz or two in a rod then get the higher dollar one.

I have the Compre spinning rod (7' M) and would highly recommend it. I chose it over the more expensive Crucial for the exposed blank. Every little nibble is sent through the blank right to your finger. It is excellent for shaky-heads and drop-shotting.
