Hey guys I don't post on here that much as I live in Murfreesboro and mostly fish middle TN for stripers and cats and trout on the Caney Fork. Most of my posts this past year would have been about trout and I just figured they wouldn't be of much interest. I read the posts on CFF almost every day though and have been wondering what part I could play in helping the little girl with cancer.
I don't have much money but I know my stuff when it comes to the waters I fish. I'm not a guide either although I've seriously considered getting a bigger boat so I could guide April and May up behind Watt's Bar dam for stripers and cats. My proposition is simply this.
If Dhaun or one of you guys out there will tell me how I can do the auction, I'll be happy to take someone on a wading trip to the Caney Fork for the plentiful rainbows and browns that call this magnificent river home.
I'm 32 and moved here from SC 5 years ago. I've fished the Caney for 4 yrs now and spend at least 40 to 50 days a year on this river and have had many 30 to 50 fish days on the Caney and know the first 10 miles like the back of my hand. I mean every hole and every bend, from the dam to Betty's Island. In fact I took my fiance's son this past Wednesday and we caught about 50 between the two of us. Took my fiance yesterday and even being a novice fisherwoman she still caught her limit. My largest is an 8lb brown and 6lb rainbow with an over 4 lb rainbow 23" long caught on Wednesday.
When it comes to trout, I'm personally a spin fisherman 100%. Nothing against fly fishing I just have never owned a fly rod. Also, I like catching lots of fish and when you spin fish for trout with the right setup and in the right place, it's easy to mop up on sheer numbers. The two baits I use togther are a deadly combination.
The trip I offer would go like this:

1. This will be a wading trip wearing chest waders, meaning you'll have to have good balance and decent leg strength.
2. I'll provide rods, bait and tackle, lunch and snacks, drinks and I even have an extra pair of chest waders size 11 boot fit for a medium to medium large man or woman and a smaller size 6/8 kids waders
3. you need a valid TN resident or non resident fishing license (with a trout stamp, if you want to keep your limit of seven trout) (FYI resident yearlong fishing license w/ trout stamp is $46) if you just want a day stamp added to your existing license, its probably a lot cheaper
4. We must fish non-generation periods, and as the CenterHill Dam generates differently from day to day, with weekends being the lightest periods of generation. We'll have to get together and work out the best day to go. Saturdays and Sundays ususally give you longer periods of non-generation meaning more time on the water.
5. Local knowledge of the area and a chance to see some of middle TN's most gorgeous water.

I can pretty much guarantee even the most novice angler will catch some trout and more experienced anglers their limit of rainbows, with many more released. Honestly, obviously I can't literally guarantee you fish, 'cause it's up to them to be hungry and bite, but I'll put it like this. Last year 90% or more of my trips were 20 fish or more. I've only had two days that I can remember in the last year or so where we only caught a few and no days where we got skunked. The average trout is 10 to 12" with half of them going better than 15" for the particular stretch I fish. I don't even know how many we caught Wednesday over 15".

I just don't know of a better way I can help this family, with the limited financial resources I have right now. But if this appeals to any of you PLEASE give me some feedback. Dhaun, maybe you can work out how the person pays for this trip. I think I saw a place to send the money on one of the other posts.

Thanks for offering your time!! Just look at what some of the others have put up for a fishing auction and see what they are doing. I am not sure, but I know most of them and none of them are guides either. Just whatever you would like to offer for a trip, post it and let all these good people start bidding. As far as your trout fishing reports, please post them!! I am always intrested in seeing what everyone is catching all over this great state. Thanks again!!!!emoAngel emoThumbsup

One other thing of note, is that right now there is a decent shad kill going on up on the Center Hill lake. The shad are being pushed through the dam to the river below and causing the big Browns to stack up behind structure and ambush the dead or dying shad as they float by, for about the first 6 miles below the dam. I can't guarantee anything but this is the best time of year for a huge brown. I'll resize and post a few pics by tonight.
Also I'll be bringing an awesome digital Canon camera and will either email or send hard copies of the pictures from the trip. One other thing, I'm headed to the Caney in the morning and will post my report and pictures.
Thanks guys and remember, every dime of your money will go to that little girl and her family. I'll pay for my expenses out of my pocket.

Great post ChasinBait! If you want we can go ahead and let the auction begin right here, just need to set an end date.

This is where the donations go:
Gateway Bank & Trust - 5102 Alabama Highway - Ringgold GA 30736
Make the check out to Madison Elizabeth Hight Cancer Fund.

Thanks and please feel free to post those trout reports on CFF!

Wow, I guess I am gonna have to float after I finish my hunt next weekend! I caught my first fish on the Caney and spend alot of time on the river each year. One day you should trade the waders for shorts and float the river some time. As soon as I tag a bird this weekend, I'm gonna have to float! Feel free to leave Caney reports anytime!

Man I still can't get this dang picture resizing thing down. I just spent 30 minutes trying to resize some pictures and then lost all my progress.
Anyhow, let's don't put a cap on it but we'll give it til middle of the week or this weekend. Whatever you think Dhaun. I'm sure the family needs the money sooner rather than later but I just don't want to cut out on anybody willing to bid, so whatever date you think will be fine with me.
Churly, its awesome what you did with your auction. By the way, I do float her sometimes on the Caney but I've got a 15' Alumacraft Superhawk MV w/ a 25 Evinrude so I have to be real careful about when I put the boat in 'cause of how low the river can drop. But what I generally do is rent a canoe from Caney Fork Outdoors when I want to float. I've got access to some awesome stretches of river with deeper runs that hold good amounts of keeper rainbows though and I just love hittin' those honey holes. I want to break down and buy a canoe from somewhere like the ones at Dick's Sporting Goods, but I'm between jobs right now and "out of work" artists just don't make that much, LOL! If you ever want to fish together, give me a private message and I'll give you my # or you can reach me @ [email protected]. I'm sure you know all my places but if you want to pick my brain, I'll be happy to float with you.
You guys, I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier but I could also rent a canoe for the trip and we could float the first six miles. Winning bidder that will be up to you. We'll work it out when you win. It is a great way to see 6 miles of one of my favorite places on earth, and I've fished all over the SE. From Morehead City,NC to Key West, FL to Arkansas, south to the Midnight Lump off Venice LA and north to Burkesville KY. The Caey has some of the coolest scenery in the US and I'm sure anybody who's floated her can tell you the same.

I'll bid $150 for your guide services, and I have a canoe for the float portion of the trip but you will have to put up with my fly rod and feathers at least until I get tired of watching you slay them on the spin gear.

Chasin'bait I more than welcome trout reports from that great trout fishery The Caney Fork River. In fact let me put it this way, "Please Give us some Trout reports".. I love to see what is going on over there. Now I know I'm ready to go back to the Caney Fork.

Reliable,
it looks like you're gonna wind up bidding on this one alone. Fine by me, I just want to do my part to help this family. I'd like to see it go higher but if you're serious about the$150, they'll at least get more than I could afford myself. I'm gonna end this auction on FRIDAY March 30 so tell everybody else thats been looking for a trout guide on the Caney, you know where one's being sold for peanuts. NO PUN INTENDED! I'm still not sure how we'll get confirmation of payment so we can set the trip up though. BUT at any rate as I soon I recieve confirmation we're gonna set this thing up real soon and get on the water. I may go in the morning and I'll post pics and reports. Come on guys give her some bids.

Looks like you may have the trip man, send me a private message and let me know you've paid and when you want to go. The trout are on fire right now on the Caney and its agreat time to be out there. I'll give you my phone# and we can get together this weekend or next but I need to know soon as I'm planning a trip to SC soon to get my boat so the sooner or better. Thanks guys and gl!!
