Hey guys I don't post on here that much as I live in Murfreesboro and mostly fish middle TN for stripers and cats and trout on the Caney Fork. Most of my posts this past year would have been about trout and I just figured they wouldn't be of much interest. I read the posts on CFF almost every day though and have been wondering what part I could play in helping the little girl with cancer.
I don't have much money but I know my stuff when it comes to the waters I fish. I'm not a guide either although I've seriously considered getting a bigger boat so I could guide April and May up behind Watt's Bar dam for stripers and cats. My proposition is simply this.
If Dhaun or one of you guys out there will tell me how I can do the auction, I'll be happy to take someone on a wading trip to the Caney Fork for the plentiful rainbows and browns that call this magnificent river home.
I'm 32 and moved here from SC 5 years ago. I've fished the Caney for 4 yrs now and spend at least 40 to 50 days a year on this river and have had many 30 to 50 fish days on the Caney and know the first 10 miles like the back of my hand. I mean every hole and every bend, from the dam to Betty's Island. In fact I took my fiance's son this past Wednesday and we caught about 50 between the two of us. Took my fiance yesterday and even being a novice fisherwoman she still caught her limit. My largest is an 8lb brown and 6lb rainbow with an over 4 lb rainbow 23" long caught on Wednesday.
When it comes to trout, I'm personally a spin fisherman 100%. Nothing against fly fishing I just have never owned a fly rod. Also, I like catching lots of fish and when you spin fish for trout with the right setup and in the right place, it's easy to mop up on sheer numbers. The two baits I use togther are a deadly combination.
The trip I offer would go like this:
1. This will be a wading trip wearing chest waders, meaning you'll have to have good balance and decent leg strength.
2. I'll provide rods, bait and tackle, lunch and snacks, drinks and I even have an extra pair of chest waders size 11 boot fit for a medium to medium large man or woman and a smaller size 6/8 kids waders
3. you need a valid TN resident or non resident fishing license (with a trout stamp, if you want to keep your limit of seven trout) (FYI resident yearlong fishing license w/ trout stamp is $46) if you just want a day stamp added to your existing license, its probably a lot cheaper
4. We must fish non-generation periods, and as the CenterHill Dam generates differently from day to day, with weekends being the lightest periods of generation. We'll have to get together and work out the best day to go. Saturdays and Sundays ususally give you longer periods of non-generation meaning more time on the water.
5. Local knowledge of the area and a chance to see some of middle TN's most gorgeous water.
I can pretty much guarantee even the most novice angler will catch some trout and more experienced anglers their limit of rainbows, with many more released. Honestly, obviously I can't literally guarantee you fish, 'cause it's up to them to be hungry and bite, but I'll put it like this. Last year 90% or more of my trips were 20 fish or more. I've only had two days that I can remember in the last year or so where we only caught a few and no days where we got skunked. The average trout is 10 to 12" with half of them going better than 15" for the particular stretch I fish. I don't even know how many we caught Wednesday over 15".
I just don't know of a better way I can help this family, with the limited financial resources I have right now. But if this appeals to any of you PLEASE give me some feedback. Dhaun, maybe you can work out how the person pays for this trip. I think I saw a place to send the money on one of the other posts.
