I had heard that the crappie were moving up and starting to bite so I went out for a while today. My freezer is empty on fish and I am really in the mood for a fish fry. I got serious today and bought minners.(Yes,...I said minners, I am from the south and it is minners, not minnows.)emoBigsmile I had a ball, I am not sure how many I caught but I came home with 17 keepers and just got through filleting them out.emoHungry I am about to have me a fish supper of fresh crappie. MMMmmmMMmm,...good. I caught all of them anywhere from 8 to 12 feet deep. Just had on a split shot and a crappie hook and was free falling it up and down slowly. I was in the Wolftever area. A lot of the hits I never felt, just when I pick it up it was heavy and they were on. I do love this time of year.emoCool Jmax

Good Lord willing, Jmax, we will be out there tomorrow (Tuesday) chasing those little papermouths around. Great catch. A lot of people like crappie to eat as their favorite fish. They are about 4th on my list. My preference in order are stripers, blue catfish, shellcrackers and then crappie. OOps, I should insert spots between catfish and shellcrackers. That will make MadBomber happy.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

JMax,
I am glad you had a good day out and found some Crappie. I went from the bank Sat. morning but didn't find any crappie. I did manage one small spot <12 and missed a few. I fished with minnas in the Harrison Bay area. The water has not fallen enough for me to get to my normal Crappie spots by bank. I was going to try the WT area but while setting the hook on the spot, I knocked my cell phone off my side and emoDoh in the water it went. I spent the rest of the afternoon getting it replaced. Then it was time to watch a little football.

Drumking my favorite is walleye but right behind those are crappie. I pigged out yesterday and ate way more than I should have. Those were some nice ones. A couple would have gone a lb and a half. It made 4 messes for my family so I need to go back and do it again to stock up for the winter.emoBigsmile They sure were hitting funny. A couple guys saw me and came over near me and tried it but they kept missing them. I bet I missed 1 out of 3 myself. I also caught a bream so some of them may have been those little fella's. I also caught a cat and a spotted bass, both small. I am looking forward to doing it again. As this water cools it will just get better.emoThumbsup Jmax

Crappie fishing isnt something I've ever been good at or spent the time too. I could use a good teacher in this class of fishing

Anyone wanna show me what , where, how? </p>

2k, Jmax, great to hear that you are on the crappies. I will have to go out there with you sometime for the papermouths and not just those bucketmouths. Live bait, are you kidding me? Jmax with live bait, you must have been ill Jimmie.

Naw,emoLaugh when it comes to the paper mouths I will use whatever it takes including minners. I like it more on jigs but my source had tried jigs and they could not get them to hit them so they went to minners. I decided to start off on what worked for them and not try to reinvent the wheel.;) Jmax

Jmax, sounds like ya done well..... I have to agree about the walleye. emoThumbsup
Walleye and Sauger are at the top, then the crappie... YUM YUM... emoLaugh

Jmax, were you fishing laydowns or structure underwater for the slabs? I would love to start and fill my freezer up with some of those yummy Crappie.

Jerdog, PM sent. I hate being so secretive but the area is not mine, with over 900 members now even if it was mine I would be very careful posting just where a person found some fish. I will say the crappie were suspended and where I was, it was about 20 feet, I was only using about 8 to 12 feet of drift line out. Most of the hits I did not feel, the line would just go slack, and they were there. There was several vertical structures in the area also which may have been holding the bait so they were there after them. That part is just a guess. I am wanting to go back and see if they are still there.emoCool Jmax

Guess we'll have too hire a private eye to tail you , lol , I haven't been crappie fishing but I've run thru that area 4 or 5 times this week and the fish still seem to be there. emoLaugh
