This bowseason has started off with a bang, I have not been able to spend a lot of time in the woods due to work schedules, but I have been able to see deer on most all of my jaunts into the field. Sat. morning started off cool but not cold with a slight breeze, I was wishing for it to be colder but we have to take mother nature as she see's fit, I was watching a south facing hillside with a grove of white oaks that had started dropping acorns and was hoping to catch a buck or doe stopping by on thier way back to a cedar thicket to bed. There are a few fields south of this hillside that the deer are still feeding in at night. About 30 min. after daylight I spotted a small 6 point heading my way. he looked to be a 1and 1/2 year old buck and I let him walk but he sure gave me several shot oportunities. Next was a couple of does but they would never give me a clear shot. The high light of the morning was the turkeys. I had climbed up in my tree stand about an hour before daylight and as it started to get light i kepted hearing turkeys and realized I had several gobblers roosting in the trees next to me. One bird was not happy to have me up in the trees with him, he caught me moving my head and boy did he put up a fuss. Sat. evening was a slow evening with no deer sightings. I decided to sit in then same tree Sunday morning and see what mioght show up. About 30 min. after daylight I spot movement and see a doe feeding my way but she turns and wanders off up the hill. I'm still wathing the way she came in when I spot movement about 80 yards off through the woods, when i find the deer with mt binoculars in see that it is a good buck. He continues on toward me at a very slow pace, the old heart is pounding by this time as i'm hoping for a shot. He angles on down the hillside till he is standing feeding about 18 yards from me. I'm able to get my bow drawn and send a arrow on its way. The shot looks good but the buck justs runs about twenty yards in a "C" pattern and is standing only 30 yards away looking like what the heck just happened. I dont see any sign of a hit on his right side, I had shot at his left side so I was looking for an exit hole. I decide to try for another shot at this point, I am trying to pull another arrow from my quiver and still keep a eye on the buck. My arrow gets hung up and I have look back at the quiver to pull it free and when I look back he's gone! I can't find him anywhere and there is now way he could have run or walked and got out of my sight in that amount of time. I start looking the hill side over with the binoculars and finally find him only about four steps from where he was standing. The hillside has alot of brush on it and it was tough to find him. He turned out to be a mainframe 8 with a few kickers. 150lbs dressed. Good start to to this season.. Hope all of Y'alls arrows fly tru.

oooooohh I am SO jealous right now. that being said- good on ya! must feel great to START the season off with a nice 8 pt. what was the spread on that thing?

Hey J.S. the spread was just over 18 inchs, hang in there good things happen to those who put there time in the woods. It does take the edge off just to know you can still shoot under pressure. now I can concentrate on a few does to fill the freezer. thanks everyone.
