Yesterday afternoon I was processing the doe that I harvested last weekend. I looked out my kitchen window in hopes of seeing a doe and twin fawns that show about every evening, and there stood a coyote. Since I'm not a fan of coyotes, I laid my knife down and eased into the bedroom and grabbed my single-shot 12 ga. and a couple of 00-buckshot and slipped out the side door. When I was almost to the corner of the house my bulldog was already headed towards not one, but two coyotes. He stopped about 15 - 20 yards shy of them and bristled. Both coyotes did the same. I called my dog's name and he turned enough to get him out of harm's way and I fired, knocking one of the coyotes down. The other immediately jumped on it. Durting the excitement I dropped the other shell, and by the time I got it and re-loaded, both coyotes were gone, one with haste, the other was dragging pretty bad. I looked for him for a few minutes, found a good amount of blood, but as it was almost dark I opted to abandon the search. A deer is one thing, but a coyoteis a whole 'nuther animal. I thought that it was kinda' bold for them to be that close to the house.
