Let me start by appologising for both procrastinating on the fishing report, and for merging 2 seperate trips into one thread.

Hiwassee River

Earlier last tuesday, I managed to have the time to take a trip up to the hiwassee river. This time I was going to try to catch my first brook or brown trout.
I wound up leaving later in the day than I wanted to, and wound up at reliance fly and tackle about 3pm. There I saw something interesting that caught my eye. It is a product called fas snaps. So I bought a pack.

I wound up arriving at the powerhouse around 3:30. It was then I realized I had not organized and consolidated my trout specific fishing gear together into a small pack I could take with me as I planned to wet wade. So time flew and by the time I was finished preparing it was already 5:00. Then I finally got on the water and began searching for a good spot to fish. Using the fas snaps I was much more easily about to try various patterns of my spinners. After losing a few spinners to the rocks, I finally managed to hook a 12-14 inch trout on a holographic trout panther martin spinner. He put up a good fight but he was not match for my treble hook in his jaw.

It was about this time that the water began to rise, so I found a new spot on the shoreline. After losing a few more spinners I tried a smaller single hook spinner, and managed a hookup. Then the fight was on. I never got a very close look at this fish, but it put up a strong fight. It was fighting more than the rainbow I hooked earlier. However due to my inexperience on single hooks on trout, I tried to reel the trout in to quickly, instead of playing it. Eventually it broke the surface, and I believe it had a yellow belly. Then it got loose, and I never saw it again.

It was about this time the sun was going down, and it was time for me to leave. Then I just began the hour drive home.

All in all the trip went great, as I learned some things to do, and not to do. I need to work on stopping my lures from getting caught on underwater rocks.

For those who do not know, fas snaps look like this

I have yet to test them more extensively, but I highly recommend them for easy change out of spinners at least.(I have not tested how they affect the action of other lures yet)

Lake Junior.

I went and just did a brief check on fishingreminder to see what its prediction for the day would be for fishing. It seemed that it was a 4 star day, so I decided to go try my luck at catching some of the trout. It turned out the fish were largely active, just like the prediction said it would be. However no lures I tossed at the fish had any success.(now I have a very limited casting range due to not having any poles longer than 6ft)

Eventually I just tried my luck at a method I have been having success with. A carolina rig with a size 6 light wire hook, and 1 or 2 pieces of a neon orange floating nugget. After a few minutes I managed to have my first hookup. A small 6-8 inch trout, who was hooked in the gills from swallowing the hook.
There were several times I was just reeling in to check to see if my bait was still on the hook, and I discovered that I had a fish on the line.

In the end I managed to catch 1 12-14 inch trout, another small colorful trout, and the finally a bass of unknown species. At first glance I though I had a spotted bass due to the pronounced black lateral line. However on closer inspection I discovered that it was probably a hybrid of some kind. I will post the picture sometime later, and the perhaps it can be identified.

After catching the fish I packed up and headed to booker T park to see if I could possibly catch a few crappie to go with the trout. However In the limited time I had before I needed to head home to get ready for work, I only managed on watching my newly purchased pair of forceps sink into the deep.

Today. Today I just succeeded in taking my mother to enjoy the nice scenery at the hiwassee river and I took her to see the gee creek waterfall. I went fishing a little bit, and only managed one hookup with got away(it was a small fella though), and I got some good wet wading experience. She had a blast and enjoyed taking some pictures.
