I really screwed up while taking the boat out of the water a while back I forgot to tilt it up and drug the motor on the ramp I yelled for the wife to stop but instead of just putting her foot on the brake she put the truck in park and the trailer rocked back a little so now the motor is tilted inward , long story short i had to tilt it up to get it off the ground and now the transom is busted. There is no crack on the fiberglass on the outside but when you shake the engine up and down the upper deck moves and it never did before so I know its busted inside. There was an old crack on the inside that may have been repaired before I bought the boat. anyway I was wondering if anybody has rebuilt a transom before , how involved is it etc? I was thinking I could pull the engine and put a 1/4 inch aluminium plate on the inside and one to match on the outside and thru bolt the heck out of it for a relatively easy fix but not sure that it would work, as am a newbie at transom fixin ha ha, any thoughts? Thanks Larry

I'm sure your gonna get all kinds of advice on this! Don't take any chances with this and try to patch it up, this could end up causing a serious accident on the water. Take your boat to a professional fiberglass boat repair shop and have them evaluate the severity of your problem and let them repair the damage. I know that's not what you want to hear but its better to be safe than sorry. There is a repair shop in Dalton and Cleveland and I also think there is one in Tullahoma.

It all depends on what kind of boat design, age, etc of your boat. Say on a 15 yr old bass boat, trash it, it will cost more than the boat is worth. Can you post up some pictures?
