Last fall I watched a video of David Fritts cranking with braid and singing its praises. His conclusions made sense so I decided to give it a try. All winter long I used 20lb 832 on square bills and mid depth cranks on the Coosa impoundments and so far I'm pleased. With deep cranking around the corner and the clearer water of the TN River, Im curious if any of you have tried it on Chickamagua or the Big G and what your results were

For me but I don't like braid for a crank bait. Especially a deep running crank bait. There is not enough flex and give to the line and you risk tearing the hooks out of the fish. Also braid floats. I want fluorocarbon because it sinks with the bait. I use 10 or 12 lb. line to try to get the bait deeper. I know several brave guys that use 8 lb. test even with the deepest running cranks. JMO!

I like the feel of braid for late winter/early spring shallow cranking on the shorter casts I make that time of year. I do have a short 5' length of flourocarbon leader on this setup and use it on a limper rod. For deeper cranking I use a 10-12 fluorocarbon line with no braid for the longer casts to get down deep. I'm sure you could use a very thin braid to get a deep crank down also, but I haven't tried that setup. Using a fast tip medium action rod should keep you from pulling off fish with braid. The feel with braid is pretty awesome for cranks or any bottom bouncing bait.

Ive used it a couple times on chick and it worked well for me jmo but you know others are stuck in the old ways before braid
