I wanted to try some new stuff, so I fished alone today. Fish didn't cooperate very well either. I landed about 10-12 crappie (3 keepers), about 1/2 dozen bluegills, and 1 white bass. Most of the fish came off a couple of docks up river. I did manage to catch the white bass and about 3 bluegills off Polo's pet hole on the river. He knows where it is. The crappie didn't want the bait moving hardly at all today. I found the water temp to be from about 48-50 degrees, depending on where you were at. I didn't take pics today. The wind wasn't bad today, but it was blowing one way and the current was running the other way. This was not one of my better days.

You know Drumking .. the horrorscopes say that today is going to kinda be a bummer for everyone. Bottom line is try ... but don't beat yourself up if it didn't turn out like you anticipated.

I'm going fishing Monday if the down pours that they are predicting don't happen.

emoSorry, but I know you'll bounce back. I'm a little concerned that the crappie haven't turned on a bit better by now.

I could be wrong, but I think that the water needs to be colder to bunch them up better. They seem to be scattered and uninterested. Of course, we are in a bad moon phase too. Next Thursday to next Tuesday will be the best days for the rest of this month to fish, if the weather permits.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Guys hate to say it but I tore them up today. I just posted it on another post but I must have boated 100 crappie today and came home with a limit of slabs. Man that was fun and I just made a mess of them for supper. MMMmmmmMM Good!emoHungry I could only get them to hit a black/chartruse crappie tube suspended at about 10 to 14 feet in about 20 feet of water. That was the ticket all day, I did it from 8 to 4 and was still catching them when I left. I figured I had better get home and start cleaning them.emoTongue Jmax

Jmax, You'll haxe to forgive me for not being able to crappie fish with 12Lb. test. If I use that kinda line I'm pulling in somthing that will bend my rod. Not a 1-1/2Lb. crappie, not that I didn't want a 1-1/2Lb. crappie. I'll study up. But in my defence they had slowed quite a bit.I guess I'll use 12Lb. line next timeemoLaugh.

emoUpsmile I hear ya 2 jigs. I would say that 1 out of 100 times drumking will more than likely kick my butt on crappie fishing.emoWorthy He is the man on crappie, but you know the saying,"Every dog has it's day" and I guess yesterday was mine.emoToast Jmax

DK, you and I have the same problem when it comes to crappie. I think that what has happened is that the majority of the bait has moved out to the channel and the crappies have gone with them and we both like to throw at something, a dock or a brush pile or something that we know is there holding fish but right now I think that the vast majority of the fish are relating to bait balls and not cover. I always think of crappies as cover oriented fish but I think that the spider rig guys and those that feel better fishing for roaming fish have an advantage right now.
What do you think DK?

Oh yeah, Polo, I do think that the Crappie follow the bait closely. That's one of the things that I look for in winter time. As I said on my original post, I was trying a new technique and a few new places to me and I wasn't very successful in catching numbers. Jmax wore them out and that is good to hear. When you get onto what they want and the right depth, you can wear them out. I didn't do that yesterday. Normally, I fish up around Dayton in January and February, but I didn't have time to go up there yesterday. I think that Fishnvol and I are going up there on Tuesday.

Jmax I'll say this much. I've not fished with too many guys that are as good of an all around fisherman as you.emoThumbsup emoThumbsup emoThumbsup emoToast
