Put in at Chester Frost for a change; trolling in 8'-10' water; boy, it sure was beautiful out there today; hardly a breeze to bother you. Oh yeah, we did catch 12 keeper crappie; did catch a number of hybrid stripers. Probably caught at least as many that didn't keep; you would have thought that they would have really turned loose today, but it was not to be. Two of the twelve were semi-slabs. Went across the river for a while in golf course sloughs but found nothing but small crappie. We're heading for March, in like a lion; sure would have liked to have done better today. Of note, we did catch some crappie hanging around brush piles; however, most would not measure.

Were they hybrids or white bass? A hybrid is a cross between a striper and a white bass and the lakes around here have all 3 of them. Most of the time those will be white bass and yes they are lots of fun! Sounds like you had a beautiful day on the water with lots of warm weather and nice fish.

JerDog, you're probably correct; I just know they're not what we use to call stripes (yellow bass) as they have a mouth similar to the largemouth; these fish all had broken lateral black lines on their sides; but they were probably too small to be true hybrids. I would assume the hybrids would normally run larger being a cross between a rockfish and a white bass. Thanks for the info; looked on the internet but that only confused me.

I GREW UP CALLING WHITE BASS A STRIPE...THIS WAS BEFORE THE INTRODUCTION OF THE ROCKFISH IN TVA WATERS IN THE 70`S?....WASN`T LONG BEFORE A LOT OF PEOPLE STARTED CALLING THEM STRIPE...THEN THE HYBRID CHEROKEE(LANDLOCKED SALTWATER STRIPE CROSSED WITH A WHITE BASS...ALSO HAS BROKEN LINES) AND MEAN LITTLE BROKEN LINED YELLOW BASS THAT DON`T GET MUCH BIGGER THAN A HALF A POUND

DHaun, a buddy of mine was up there with you today; he fished where you were; tried the flats out in Harrison Bay; tried Harrison Bay Marina slough; the only keeper fish he caught were where you were. He fished from 9-4; only had 5 keepers moving around so much; my daughter and I went where you were and fished from 4:30-6:30 without catching a keeper crappie; we did see the Bald Eagle that hangs around there; that made her day.
