Decided to get up and try for some crappie this morning. Got to the dam (Chickamauga) around 7:30 and fished below the railroad bridge for 2 hours or so without 1 single bite! (yuck) Well I decided to try lake Junior since it is open until April for people to catch some small trout they stocked it with. Well I like to catch trout, but I was on a mission for crappie. It took me a while walking around the lake and trying differant colors of tubes. Well right around 10:15 the crappie decided it was time to eat and they prephered a tri-colored tube (red/pink/white) with a 1/32 oz bleading hook jighead. For 35 minutes or so I stayed in one spot and would catch a crappie at least every other cast. I was pitching the tubes within 3 feet of a fallen tree and was using a float with the tube right at 3 1/2 feet below it. None of the crappie were more than 10 inches, but they may have been the hardest fighting crapie I have every caught! All in all it was a good moring ! I figured I caught around 20 in all.

Cool catch Chris. Are there any stocked trout as well in the pond this year? Are they little rainbows and how would you go about trying to catch them? I'll have to get out there some weekend.

I saw a few trout flipping out of the water this morning. I have never tried to catch them in that lake, but in some other stocked ponds I used rooster tails,or just get you some of that berkley trout bait. It's kind of like dough, but it works well. From the trout I have seen people catch in there, they are really small. I just asume catch something else, unless they want to nibble on my lure. Then I would be more than happy to reel them in.;)

In the years past the trout in Junior Lake have been bigger and good eating size. This year however I hear that they are about ten inches and skinny.

There are some real decent crappie, LM and blue cats in there. Last year in the spring I used my flyrod from my kayak and had a blast with trout, bluegill and crappie. I lost count on the numbers of all three species. I kept a limit of nice trout and one crappie that was bumping two pounds and about 15" long. I caught at least Ten crappie well over the Ten inch mark.
