Hey guys and gals,

I fished 3 hours this morning, 7:30-10:30, and I caught 24 keepers. The females are spawning as we speak. More than half of the females that I caught are over 50% spawned out. Some are still full, but the eggs are the pumpkin color and grainy and they are doing their thing today. One more day or so and all we will catch will be the males as they guard the beds. I fished in Island Cove today. I would have gotten my limit, but the wind got up really hard, and my wife and I are going to Maryville this afternoon so I had to quit.

Throw your favorite color in a tube and fish it about 24" under a floater. I believe that the fish spawn earlier in Island Cove than anyplace so we should have good fishing in other areas for several more days. It will soon be over in Island Cove for the spawning run. Check back in with you Sunday afternoon. Good luck.

Are you referring to the cove right beside Island Cove Marina? Or in the marina itself? Or some other obscure locale I'm not familiar with and you would understandably rather not be so detailed about? emoScratch Talking to some friends in Wolftever... they have 24 keepers right now (at Noon). Said wind is killin' 'em.... oops, make that 25... just caught another one while we were on phone. His quote, "they're in here!"

Rsimms, I fished the cove beside the marina. I have always thought about going into the marina and fish, but never have. Have you been in there before?

Crossing my fingers for you ... I remember my first turkey, what strange birds!!! Sat down in a cactus patch in Texas when I was walking through the woods with my 30/30. Never had a chance ... guess he thought I wouldn't see him!

The fish seem to be shallow and the wind was fierce. This afternoon there were 5 boats within a hundred yards of my docks and there was one guy standing on one of my floaters. They were really on some fish and I watched them catch bunches off some brush near my house. They were nice guys and I didn't mind where they were but it was one of the only places that they could get out of the wind and luckily the fish were in there too.

Years ago I fished in there off dock, under the lights, with a friend who had a boat there. We caught hundreds, but they were tiny, tiny. An 8-incher was "a bigun'" I've been in there "flippin' the docks" on occasion, but I've never been very good at that. A time or two I've had folks try to run me out with talk of their "private marina." I respectfully tell them it might be a private marina, but it's sitting on "public water." But fact is not enough to attract me in there these days. I do fish the mouth occasionally. There have been times I've hammered bass on right-hand entrance (facing the dock). There's a good rock pile along right hand side where they've dredged.

I too will be making a short foray for a turkey in the AM... but back on water in afternoon and Sunday. Anybody heard any catfish reports?
