Went crappie fishing with my wife and 2 kids after school let out. Fishing was slow till almost dark. About 45 min. till dark we got on a hole that as soon as you put a bobber and minnow in it you had a bite. The kids just had a ball. Needles to say we were the last ones at the ramp when we left. Took 8 Home to cook for dinner.

1ethicalfisherman,
Sounds like you had a good evening of fishing , I'm sure the kids loved it and are probably ready to go again this evening. During those 45 min. of fishing ( during the low light bite ) were you fishing shallow, deep . brush or the edge of a drop? I noticed early last week the same scenario was happening to me in the Wolf. I was fishing from the bank , around from the boat ramp (close to the deep creek channel). You could count on it getting fast and furious right before dark. I was not able to go toward the later part of the week nor the weekend but I am tring to finish up work today so I can give it a shot. If I wouldn't check this forum so often during the day, I might get more work done and get to get out of here earlier and catch a few more fish but it just don't happen that way. Thanks for the report !

I'm planning on heading to the Wolf in a few hours. After the sun goes down I'm gonna try under the bridge with a submersible light. Iv'e done pretty good thet way during the summmer, but have heard from others their getting a lot that way right now. Has anyone seen people night fishing under the bridge lately?

drc,
I live on up 58 and Sunday evening (after dark ) I was driving up 58 and noticed 2 cars parked there at the Bridge and 2 boats fishing there also. I couldn't tell if they were using a light or not but it appeared they were crappie fishing. I almost stopped to check them out but decided to get on home. I will probably be in the area this evening too. I'll be on the bank on around from the "T" dock, either on that flat or on down on the rocks close to the first lay downs on the bank. Stop by and give me a report if you have time.
GOOD LUCK!
JSV

JSV,
We were fishing along the bank on some semi-submerged brush. It seemed as though there was a 10 ft. square that the fish were stacked in. The fish were holding tight to the brush. We were fishing a float about 5 ft. deep. The closer you put the float to the bank ( within 1 ft. ) the quicker you got bit. The kids were dying to go but had to go to church. You have to have priorities. We will be out tomorow if at all possible.

1ethicalfisherman ,
Thanks for the report. I went to the Wolf yesterday evening(03-15-06) and tried the same spots were I caught several Crappie last week. My Wife , Little Girl (who had to try out her new Cinderella Fishing Pole) and myself started out fishing the flat right around from the Dock. We had little success in this area. My wife hooked one nice fish on a minnow and broke off. I had a small LMB on but it came unbuttoned as I was letting my little girl real it in. Ashley (my daughter) just turned three and gets bored with fishing after about an hour, so my wife and her went back home and I decided to try the deeper water which has a little structure on it on around the bank. This area was much more productive. I caught several Crappie (only 4 keepers) a few Stripe and several big Shad. Everything I caught came off a minnor (sorry T.T , I ment a minnow)emoSmile . I tried several different color Bass Assasins but had no results. Once again all these fish were caught during that low light period. Once the darkness set in , I didn't get another bite. I had enough for a meal but I went a head and put them back.

drc,
Did you fish the Wolf last night and try the submersible light? When I left the Boat Ramp there were still several boats still out . I talked to a few people which had gone and most all caught fish but said it wasn't as good as it was over the weekend.

I didn't bother going last night, my buddy bailed on me at the last minute so I stayed at home. I'll be out there this weekend, hopefully.
