Guys, my father-in -law is in town and I would love to take him Crappie fishing from shore somewhere on the Nick. Where is the best place to fish for crappies from shore, not really going to keep them, just want him to have fun ? I don't want your secret areas, just somewhere that everyone normally go and can catch a few. Thanks

I'm by no means a crappie fisherman but I'll try my best. You can always catch a couple on the low side of the dam on the jasper side. There is plenty of room over there and not too hard to get to.

I've been keeping an eye on all the places most folks fish from the bank, and from past experience, if no one is fishing those places, the fish aren't there. So it's like johnboat basin says," fish the lower side of the dam on the Jasper side." I was there after the heavy rain early last week and caught two nice crappie, both around 13 inches, 5 white bass, one small large mouth, and a drum that was about 10 lb. About three weeks ago I saw a guy catch a seven and a half and a three and a half lb. bass on a chrome Mr. Champ spoon while fishing for white bass. White or chartreuse grubs or white Beatle Spins or B.G. crappie jigs will all produce. Good luck.

Try the dock at shellmound. I've never fished it but a buddy of mine went camping there last year. Sent me pics. He done pretty good.
