Crappie harrison bay chick 04-01-06

Well I sure hope everyone else had as good day of fishing as I did today I caught 20 black and white crappie in a hr or so this am at harrison bay state park , behind the swimmin pool, from the bank. (Took my 4 yr old fishin, wife won't let him in boat unless she comes

) Caught them on tuffies, in about 1-2 feet of water. All decent size 10- 15 inches. also caught several yellow stripe. My lil boy caught a bass about 2 lbs on a coke pull tab he stuck on the hook! He said it was pretty .. aparently the bass thought so!</p>

A friend of the family came by .. young kid. well 20 or so lol .. he was fishing a crappie tourney he said .. from the bank ?!?! any way he only had 3 small ones just barely the 10inch minimum.. I give him my hole and went on down the bank lil bit .. he finshed out his limit .. and culled the 3 he had.. I caught 2 more and he culled 2 more one 16 and one 17 from the hole I gave him.. told him I expected a cut

 for givin him my hole .. JK </p>

Whoa .. good stuff there NRG!! I ALMOST thought about going over that way today .. but didn't. Nice to see someone did and found what they were looking for.

My son and I caught exactly 20 keepers in Wolftever, but it took us from 6:30am-1:00pm to do it. Trolling is definitely on its way out for this year. Most of our fish were caught in 7'-8' of water; trolling jigs with red/chartreuse tubes. We found most of our keepers holding tight to cover. Actually drug some of our keepers out of the brush. Boy did we lose a lot of jigs; seems like I spent half the day tying on jigs.

You and your son did have a day to remember. I'll have to try the coke tab bait. On slow days, I try everything else. Who would have thoughtemoQuestion

NRG, are you saying that he caught one Crappie 17" long? If so what did that fish weigh? I have one in the freezer that was 15 1/2+" and weighed 2 lbs. 2oz. A 17" Crappie is a hell of a fish to me.

I'M THINKING ABOUT GOING CRAPPIE FISHING IN STEAD OF TURKEY HUNTIN IN THE MORNING , and I already killed a 21lb bird but wouldn't have as much meat , if I could catch 20 to 30 of those 15 to 17inchers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW...LOL

I didnt mean caught 20 15" -17" he had 5 and caught a 15 and a 17 to replace 2 of the smaller ones he already had.. and yes accordin to the golden rule scale thats how big they where. They where very nice crappie .. but that was the only 2 big ones we got .. I never caught one crappie back there that was less than 10-11 inches.. most where 12 or so. not April fools joke ... and I didnt catch them ... Damon did I just give him my hole .. where I had been catchin them .. I hope he won the tourney for the bank fishermen class.

That's great NRG! About how long do the crappies stay shallow usually? I would guess that it would be less than 2 weeks for consistent action but that's just me guessin'. What would you say? Were they near some brush? In my experience, they really get up close or under something to spawn.

Your asking the wrong person about crappie .. this is prob the 3rd time that I ever went looking for them.. I just went to the shore.. and picked the fishest looking place there.. made a cast and bang crappie. The only reason went there was becuase they had a play ground up on the hill .. my son fishes a lil while then back to the playground.  There was a lil scattered brush .. but most where on the side of a very lil rocky point, I did catch a few around some small brush piles, all where in less than 2 feet of water

I apologize for thinking that was a April Fools JokeemoEvil I misinterpreted your postemoScratch However that 15 and 17incher added to his limit had to put OL' Brandon in the Medals!!!? I caught a few good Crappie this evening however they were in the range of 12 to 13 inches but good SLABS and good eating. The ones I caught were all Males not one single Female. Sorry for the misinterpretation!!I
