Crappie help

I am going to go to the Chick tomorrow and make an attempt at fishing for crappie. I am a terrible bass fisherman but even worse at trying to catch crappie. I have no idea where to start... While I would appreciate some GPS way-points I realize that isn't going to happen so I will ask a few questions like this...

How deep should I be looking? Main lake or back in the creeks arms? Any particular type of bottom like rock, shell, sand?

This is my brothers idea... He and I have not been fishing together in maybe 30 years... Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.

Use minnows next to deep water docks in Dallas bay. My neighbor and I caught 14 last Thursday.

I used Seth's information but someone was sitting on every spot he pointed me to but one... Caught a few fish... landed a 5lb LM on a crappie jig on almost the first cast of the day... Caught a few more LM as well as a few crappie. Very appreciative of the help...
