I am curious to see what kind of jigheads you guys and gals prefer when fishing for crappie with the Bobby Garlands. Ive always used just the standard unpainted round or bullet shape with a standard hook. I was thinking of trying some of those with the sickle hooks. Has anyone tried these and notice better performance? Also what size hook is prefered for say a 1/32 oz and 1/16 oz jighead? Thanks a bunch!

Sickle hooks are the only ones I buy anymore. Can't really say if their better or not because I've been using them for so long. I only use #4 size hooks made by Matzu I think? I'm using #4 for 1/32 ,1/24, and 1/16 jigs. I don't paint any of mine. You can order 100 of them for 5$ from barlows tackle. (Hooks only) Maybe someone else will chime in that can tell a little better info.

I bought some with the sickle hooks a while ago. I like them much better than the regular hooks there much easier to remove from the fish and they stay hooked well too. I got 50 of both 1/16oz and 1/32oz for around 10 dollars. I got them in the red hooks.

Do you know what brand they where? The Matzu? Ones I had bought where red,but paint seemed to chip of after a season now I buy black nickle I think is what they are.

Where is the best place to pick some of these up? Any links or does any of the sporting goods stores around here carry them? Thanks

This is where I got mine the red does fade off the hooks after you use them for a while catching fish. I don't remember but I think they're matzu. They have good prices and pretty quick shipping.

I stopped using the sickle hook because they DO NOT pull free as easy when fishing in cover. You can usually do a slow pull and bend a normal hook enough to pull free but that ain't happening with a sickle. As far as jig head I order the barbed round head 1/16 oz #2 hook. Take my pliers and pinch the jig head giving a flat spot on each side for an eye to go. Then I powder coat them put on the eye and seal them. I also have been experimenting mixing my powder coats and have came up with an amazing color that drive the fishies crazy. It's blue sapphire, chart. green, and silver with blue flake mixed. Makes for a perfect jig head combo with the BG Bluegrass, also my fav.
