Fishing Fire and myself decided to head out late this morning and see if the crappie were biting. We tried some new brush and didn't get a bite. We finally decided to try trolling for them in about 11 to 15 feet and did a little better. Managed 11 keepers, the biggest of which was in the pic at 1lb 11oz. Caught most of ours on minnows.

I also met to mention that we ran into some other guys that were fishing shallow brush and they said they had caught a few. One of the guys said his buddy had caught some yesterday in about 3 feet of water in the brush around his dock. Sounded awfully shallow for them to be right now but who knows. Water temp was around 52 degrees. Beautiful day on the water.

For the sake of that poor crappie .. and I'm assuming someone's dinner .. you could smile when you send him to death row! emoLaugh

You almost look horrified to catch that fish!!! It was however a pretty day once again to be on the water. I'm jealous!

Good report, FF. Were all of your crappie white? The one in the pic was a white crappie.emoGeezer

Twaz a great day to be on the water. I was out there also. Did not reconize any CFFers except for Polodog. Went into WT and thought it was too muddy plus all the dying bait had to have the fish full already. as I was turning around to leave Polo whistled. Wished I had stopped and chatted a while. Sorry Polo. Moved to 8' - 10' flats.

Nice slab you got there FF. "Smile"

Drumking they were all white. The bigger one had eggs in it and was in about 11 feet of water. We saw a LOT of fish on sonar but the water was full of baitfish also which I suppose has really affect the bite. But it was a wonderful day to be on the water! Saw a ton of other boats but no CFFers.

Great report FF - It sure looked like a great day to be out from my cubicle at work...I'm glad to have all these reports to read when I get home so I can plan my weekend trips!

Nice fish there FnF! It was a beauty of a day. I'm glad that you are still on them. It's interesting that all your fish were white crappies. What part of the lake were you on?

Nice fish FF and it is a good sign to see those whites starting to bite. It always means it is crappie season.

Polo we were on the upper end, near the nuke plant, creek mouth coming out into the river, Depth varied from 11 to 15 feet, maybe a tad more, water temp 52 degrees and very clear. We caught almost all of our fish on minnows, but I use a rig that combines minnows and jigs on the same line. I don't think we caught a single fish that didn't have that longer jaw that the whites have, but of course we could have and I just didn't notice. ( I tend to get very excited when I am catching fish!) We actually caught 26 fish but a lot of them were short. Also got a couple of FAT bream. The keepers we kept we a solid 10" with just a couple over 11", and then the big one in the pic which on my digital scale weighed in at 1lb 11oz, the best crappie I have caught this year. I was amazed at the amount of meat that came off just that one fish! Cheez the guys I met on the ramp said the same thing you did about the whites. I'd never heard that myself but they seemed to swear by it. These guys looked like they were pretty old, seasoned crappie fishermen so I am assuming they know what they are talking about.
