Went today in the Harrison bay state park area, fishing off the rock. I went at the typical wrong time. I got on the water around 11 AM. Fishing with Minnows under a float 12 - 18" deep. Water was 3' to 5' foot deep. Fishing a rock bank, I started off catching 2 that barely made the 10" limit. Started catching some small Largemouth Bass. and it seemed that every time I moved down the bank a bit, I'd catch 2 crappie then the bluegill would move in. This went on till about 3:45 and I had bagged about 6 crappie but had caught ariund 20 fish . Then a miraculous thing happened. I went to a point about 15 feet up the bank and struck gold. In the next hour and 15 monutes I had a total of 20 keepers, 6 of which I'd call slabs. I ran out of minnows and was using a green jig for about half of those. sorry no pictures, but it was a new place and I didn't know it would catch fire. I left at 5 with them still biting and would have bagged my limit easy.

 good report!

Sounds like you got your limit and then some, if I'm reading your post right. The limit is 15 now on crappie.

15 now? really? Glad I didn't keep 'em.

I had to catch and release today as I left work early and I don't know how I'd explain to the wifey that I found a stringer of crappie on the way home. ;)

this is why I need the forum, How long has it been since it was 35?

35?????? It was once 30 prior to going to 15 on March 1, 2007. I think Thirtyfive(35) was the poachers limit in sneaking in five(5) more in the trunk (J/KemoLaugh). Before 30 there was no limit or maybe it was 35

Like I said in a previous post, I'm new to being a crappie fisherman. I mean, for years in spring I bought minnows and headed to the closest water, just now am I really getting into it though. Once in passing, I asked a bait and tackle shop owner what the limit was and they said 35. This was around the time they were taging local crappie and you could register at any bait and takle and if you caught the tagged crappie, you won prizes.

I was just "Funning" with you BB. (J/K) means "Just Kidding" in Forum talk.

I remember when they had those Tagged Crappie contest. We caught a few. I think that was in the early `80's.

Thanks for the memories and no offence in my (J/K)

From what I heard they where doing relly well on the docks there as well, I wanted to try that out but the sign said no fishing. even though there were some guys fishing the dock, I just didn't have the courage. I tried casting from the bank next to the dock, but all I got were bluegill and the strike was so fast that a crappie just didn't have the time. That's when I tried the rock bank.
