Crappie on the Chick 6-30-2006

Although I don't fish for crappie, I figured I would post a report for those that do. While hanging a dish for a customer at Gold Point Marina, I noticed a couple fishing from the comfort of their slip. When I finished with the installation, I went over and chatted with them about the fish they were catching. They had an icebox full of 12"-14" crappie that they had jigged up from underneath the boat. They were using those little Bass Assassin minnows in pearl on a tiny jig. The depth in there is around 22' and they have been catching them all week.

Man, some crappies are sounding good right about now. Glad that they are getting them a mess o' slabs.

These crappie were huge, the size you catch on deep cranks while bass fishing. It must be nice to spend your days lounging at the marina in a yacht jigging up fish.

We caught about 30 nice crappie Friday night on Chickamauga. After midnight they turned on pretty good. Caught all of them on minnows under submersible green lights. Haven't been crappie fishing since April so it was great to have some fresh filets. Ate some last night and they were great.
Looking forward to going back. That was my first night fishing trip on Chickamauga. It won't be the last.
