I hooked up with a friend I met on Crappie.Com. Ben, is a nice young man and wants to be a guide when he retires. The fishing report has been awesome all week long down at Weiss and we were expecting very nice weather. We had great expetations of loading the boat. According to a few local guides we were told long line trolling seemed to be the best method for catching fish. We put in at Riverside Camp Ground and went up river to test a few coves. First cove we stopped at did not produce a bite. The second one we got two fish. I called a guide who is a freind of mine and he told us to go to Dead Boy Cove. He was in there and his boat needed only three fish to have a limit. We were not that far a way and ran over there. The boats were packed in as tight as sardines in a can. But we managed to get in and we were able to catch five more. All the fish were Nice Ones 1lb plus. The wind picked up and the sun never came out. Then the bite stopped and the boats left and so did we. We left there and went over to Cowen Creek. We did not stay there long the wind was so bad that there were white caps on the water. From there we went over to Three Mile and were protected from the wind. The water was still very shallow and it was hard to get around in that cove. But we did land two nice crappie one at 2 1/2 lbs the other just a little over 2 lbs. It was about 4:00 and we decided to see if we could straight line some minnows in some standing tember before we went home. As soon as we got to the tember the wind changed directioin and blew so hard we were not able to fish the tember properly. All in all we had seven keepers all over 1 lb and two that were over 2 lbs. The fish were caught on blue/white/chartruse, white/chartruse, or red/white. We were trolling 1/16 oz jigs, or two 1/32 oz jigs. Water temp varried greatly 49- 53 degrees. Three Mile was the warmest at 53.3 degrees. Not a lot of fish but it was a lot of fun. One more thing all the females were loaded with eggs and most had the blood vessels wrapped around the egg sacks which means they are ready to go on bed and waiting for the temp to warm up..
