Hey folks. I'm fairly new to the forums, and would like some help please. I'm about to spend a week on Weiss, and would welcome any suggestions as to where to look for crappie. I haven't found any the last 2 yrs I've gone, but I'm looking in the same spots I fished 20 yrs ago, and they just aren't there. Any help would be appreciated, here or at [email protected].

Sorry im not familiar with weiss, but i can promise your at the right place.;) emoWelcome to the forum you'll love it!

Fish the numerous boat docks in the Chattooga arm. Most of them have brushpiles around them. Trolling in Cowan and Spring creeks also produces well when the surface temp reaches the low 60's. Most colors and styles of jigs work well this time of year. I prefer blues, blacks and bubblegum 2" grubs with chartruse tails. Tennessee Shad grubs with the tails died chartruse also produce well. Lots of people like to fish shallow structure in Spring and Cowan creeks with minnows under slip floats. Be careful on Weiss. There are a lot of unmarked underwater hazards in the lake. Even when it is a full pool.

Welcome, and hope you have luck this year! Listen to Cheez, he has spent more than I make in a year in boat gas fishing that lake

Welcome to the CFF.
I haven't been there in many years but when I fished it this time of year we put in at Bay Springs or JR's Marina. Trolling is possibly the preferred method. Some likely spots that I remember would be Big Nose, Little Nose, Yellow Creek, and a slew near JR's. As was said previously be thy careful as Weiss is a shallow lake with some really trouble spots that are not marked. If you want to spend some $$$ get a guide the first day and you'll be set for the week.

I'm not going to be much help on locations but I will tell you alot of the crappie are still holding in deep water right now. I would look real hard at steep channel banks 12 to 30' of water coming up to flats. I'm not familiar with Weiss but if you can find steep banks or bluff walls and they are pulling current they will be there loading up on shad minnows. Water temps have been hanging around 55-57 I don't believe we are going to consistently catch them shallow until we get a little closer to 60. Best of luck. I look forward seeing your report.

emoWelcome i whent down their the other weekend and did not do well i got one crappei and 2 yellow stripe the best lure that day was a yellowish orangeish hair jig

emoWelcome .........emoWelcome ......Stan this is one of the best time of the year for slow trolling Yellow Creek tie to jigs or panfish assin on .16oz lead heads, 3 rods per person. Let out some line out, put trolling in 1 and keep it on then find a leadge or a bunch of boats a fall into the group and watch the rods bend its fun. There may be as many as 50 or more fishing in a pack. Fell free to jump right in there. Good Luck catching......
