I was out shopping with the wife and granddaughter this morning and when I got home about 2:30, I had a call from an old friend who invited me to fish with him and his grandson this afternoon. They were already on the water near the Tyner Lane ramp, so I quickly grabbed a crappie rod and some plastic worms and met them at the ramp.
I took them to Savannah creek and taught the grandson how to catch summer time crappie. We fished until about 7:00 pm and landed somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-40 crappie about half of which were keepers. After catching the first 7 or 8 crappie, I handed my rod to the grandson and coached him into the technique for catching them. He got pretty good by the end of the afternoon. I told him that he would always beat his granddaddy now. He was pleased. He had about 10 or 12 pound test line on his spinning reel and couldn't get a bite on that rig. I always use 4 pound test, hi vis Mr Crappie line and 1/32 oz jigs. You can't beat it when the fishing is tough.
