I've got two small ultralight crappie reels. both are spooled with 4lb mr crappie yellow line. Neither of the reels have a rod. What type of rod do you recommend....length/action/any other variables?

i really really like the custom crappie rod FA made for me built technique specific for shooting docks.
i can hit a coffee can 9 times out 10 with it from about 25 ft away and the 1/32 oz jig never gets more than 2 ft high emoThumbsup emoBigsmile emoThumbsup and he made it to match the colors on my bullet emoBigsmile

GLoomis SJR 6400 in either GL2 or IMX blank. Rod is 5'4" with extra fast tip,Tennessee handle with rings and rated for 1/64 -1/8 oz lures. I have lots of crappie rods and have used lots more but this is my favorite. If you fish four or 5 days a week it will not matter what kind of equipment you use. If you fish a couple dozen times a year like me you need all the help you can get. JMHO

uhh...i guess I should have put my spending limit...lol. I just wasn't sure on the length and how stiff/limber it should be. GLoomis rods always sounds nice to me but not to my wife emoCool

If your looking for a priced-right option, talk to Dickey. He uses a $14.00 rod from Wally World, and it felt great the other day when I went with him! At that price, you can buy 2

Shakespere Micro Graphite 5.0' UL at Walmart is 14.95. Break the tip off to the next guide and beg and plead with Fat Albert to put a new tip on it and make it a one piece rod. Makes a world of difference. Ask Rsimms about how it handles 5 pound channel cats. Sensitivity that you wouldn't believe and backbone enough to lift a 1.5 pound crappie over the side without a net. You can pay out the yin-yan for a rod if you want to, but, for the money and performance, you can't beat this for crappie fishing. Now, Polo is going to persuade you to get a 6 to 6 1/2' rod. But who ever follows Doctor's orders? emoPoke emoBigsmile emoGeezer
