Fished for a couple of hours before work today. Fished from about 12:30 to 2:15pm. I did not catch one crappie that was not a keeper today. Caught two 10 inchers off a dock back in Wolftever. It took about a 15 count drop to catch them at that dock and most of time I was trying to catch them with a 10 count or less. Tried a few casts along the supports at Wolftever bridge but no hits. The guys on the bank said that they weren't getting any. Went out to a dock out in the bay and the fish were thick on it. Caught close to 30 fish one right after the other. Some with a 5 count drop and others anywhere from there to a 15 count. They were at all levels at different times. Amazing numbers on certain docks. A few little bluegills were mixed in but very few. Still using 1 1/2 inch bass assassins with the tail dyed chartreuse. Tried a curly tail grub in about the same colors without a hit. Also tried a chartreuse paddle tail grub(can't remember the brand) that DK had given me in the past but they wouldn't hold onto it. Nothing skips like those assassins either. All fish free to fight again, just fun to catch.

Great report Polo. Man these crappie and stripe reports are making me want to park the atv and put the rifle back in the safe for a day or two.
Assasins have long been one of my favorite crappie baits. What size heads were you using?

That's a great report Polo. Makes those ofus at work not want to be there. In the middle of the day as well. We need to get together soon. Are you working on the new leader?

Great report Polo! I'll be hitting the lake looking for crappie this weekend, but this time we are going to try down closer to the dam(Chick). I have a few great ideas on where to find some fish. It sounds like they be getting a little more active now(maybe cooloing water temps.). Where do you find those little assasins? I found a couple with curly tails(that worked great for me last weekend),but none of the straight tailed ones.emoScratch

I know that you can get them at Wally world, but SW may also have them. Actually they are called panfish assassins.emoGeezer

Great report, Polo. Glad to see that you are finding the crappie still there. I haven't had time to fish in over a week and it's going to be next week at the earliest before I can even think about going again. Do you think that it is the little panfish assassins themselves or the little tail dyed chartreuse that is driving the fish nuts? LOL I am awfully fond of those little lures. Just remember, don't fall in love with them. There will be times when the crappie will prefer other lures so be willing to experiment.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Surely there's got to be another dock besides DK's Honey Hole with fish on it? emoLaugh Ya'll are going to have all those fish "trained" before too long. emoPoke

Cheez, I am still using a 1/32 oz head. Biofisher, I went to the hole and got no hits from the big cats, I would think that was what you were refering to about "the leader". fishnvol, you can get the baits at Wally world but last time I was there they didn't have them at SW, someone had cleaned them out. DK, I think that it's probably a combination of things. I think that there is a good chance that curly tails, because they have been around so long have some negative cues to them for many fish. Also, moving them so slowly on the presentation with only the 1/32ozer takes away from the action of the tail. The fish really want little or no action to the bait other than forward movement and an occasional pause it seems. I think that the chartreuse mimics the "yellow tails" that are the main forage also. Rsimms, I do wonder if there will come a time when the fish will become less likely to bite the assassins as I don't keep them and they could pick up on them and have negative cues after a while. We'll just have to see. It's fun to catch a bunch however so now they are great for catching numbers.

I am glad to see someone is catching Crappies. Great report polo. I went on the bar a couple days ago and did not get a single crappie out of any of my spots, only caught small bass and a 10lb blue cat on 6 lb line...that was fun.

Good report! I went again the other night down to the peir at chester frost around 3 am. They started hittin' right around sunrise. I was catchin' keepers as quick as get my line back out there. That was right about the time I ran out of my leftover minners, so I started throwing a 1/32oz white feather jig with some little shiny fiber optics in it and caught about 13 more keeper size from right under the peir about a 10 count drop. I've never tried the assasins, I may have to give those a whirl!!!

Why does all the good stuff come at the same time? Like Cheez said. Make me want to hang to gun back up for a day or so.

I want to get after schooling LM bass, catch strippers(or is it stripersemoLaugh ). The monster cats are eating, Crappie are moving in and I want a limit of spots. I wonder If I can do all that in one day?

I believe you could LL if you tried real hard. It would definitely be an interesting report.
