I did fish again today on a brushpile close to my house and the crappies are still there. Fished with panfish assassins initially and had a hit most every cast. Most of the crappies were just little ones. Broke off one assassin and went to live bait and the minnows didn't produce much so went back to the assassins and started catching again. Right at about 6:30pm caught one 13 inch white crappie and had to quit and get to work. Caught 4 keepers but took pics only of the 13 incher and this time tried to get a pic of the smallest crappie that I could catch rather than the largest. Catchin' is a blast, even if the fish are small. All fish were on top of or just to the side of the brush pile. The bigger fish seemed to be on the creek side of the pile but still just 2-3feet down. No fish hit deeper than that. Pics to follow, I will upload them when I get back home.

Catching fish in general is my passion, if they are big great but sometimes it takes more skill and patience to catch the little ones. Fishng through the brushpile I would get one or two hits on almost every cast and I would expect that it was those aggressive little crappies that were doing most of the biting.

When I speak of an "assassin" I am talking about a little grub like lure that DK put me onto. They are like crappie candy and work incredibly well. They have a straight tail, at least the ones that I use do, and seem to have no action whatsoevery but they really catch fish. I fish them on a small jighead, either 1/32 or 1/16oz depending on the depth that I am fishing. They slide through the water and fall straight when you pause in the retrieve. Here's a pic of one that is dyed with the dippin' dye that I use the most with that big crappie that I caught a couple of weeks ago. They are great baits.
