has anyone tried dropshotting a streamer fly thats tied to look like a threadfin? I was thinking about what you could do to get in on some of that action that EricM and Whisler do all spring long. Im not really much for the bass but I was curious as to whether it would work or not.

Actually, I have tried something similar. I got some saltwater streamers and have fished the area with a flyrod. Unfortunately, it takes quite a while to reach the bottom in that depth without too much weight, so relatively little time is spent in the correct zone with the fly. Drop-shotting would work much better at those depths, but making a streamer work would be tough, it would just jig up and down and not dart forward much. Might be worth a try though! Good thought!

I have tried something similar also. I have dropshotted small softplastics and even dead threadfin. A few fish were caught on the softplastics and none on the dropshotted threadfins. But that could change daily out there. Adding a scent to the streamers might be the ticket. ??

At times the softplastics dropshotted works really well. Tried a streamer yesterday but the skipjack wouldnt leave it alone. Does anyone know how to rig a live skipjack? I know a bridle with some trebles would work but it didnt have wire or trebles on the boat.

Hagen, for live skipjack I just hook them from under the mouth through a nostril with an 8/0 or bigger circle hook. Give the fish time to start to load the rod and DONT set the hook, just reel until the fish is hooked. Really big skippies might do well with a harness, but unless it is done right they will curl in the water and not look right.
