Went out in search of some fat cats with Too Tall Wednesday night. Got on the water about 5:30pm and fished until 10:00pm. We hit 2 spots with no bites then headed over to a spot to try a little different strategy. We had sat anchored in this new spot for about 45 minutes without a bite and we were kinda bored so we were checking out all the features of my new Lowrance unit when my bait clicker went offemoHoppingmad . I flipped the brake and the tip got pulled into the water before I could back it offemoDoh. Got the drag loosened and the fight was on!! I could tell this was a good fish, but they all pull different. This one was MAD!!!! It pulled drag on and off for 15 minutes.
In the meantime Too Tall was getting the light, scales, and camera ready. Finally got it to the top and threw the light on it and man was it pretty. Still about 5 feet down and swimming back and forth, but she was SWEET!!!emoToast . When she was done I grabbed her into the boat with my patented "Catfish Grab". Unhooked it, weighed it in at 40 pounds and held it up for Too Tall to click my "Hall of Fame" picture.
Then, with a pathetic look on his face he says the batteries are deademoDoh emoDoh emoDoh. Actually the battery door was loose, we fixed that and snapped some shots. Eased her back into the water and she shot off like a rocket. HIGH FIVE X 10!!! Hall of Fame BABY!!!

So question is "what to wear to the induction ceremony? Will I be required to give a speech?

Water temp was 53.7, bait was a shad head, and the water was calm. That's all I can say, ha ha.

As a sidenote this makes 3 Benton Oil employees that are now in the hall of fame, all with blue cats!!

Till the next big cat,

Congrats CH. That is one pretty fish. I assume that it was a gizzard shad head that you were using. Was the fish on a drop?

Gizzard shad indeed Polo!!! they were knee deep below the dam that night. It was caught in the flats. 100 yards or so from the channel.
