Bite very slow, caught 3, one lm on blu/blk jig and pig, weight 3 pounds, caught 2 spots one ,on craw rattle trap, weight 1.5 pounds, one caught on 5'' blk/blu grub ,weight 2.5 pounds. fished from 8:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. One question for all ?was fishing island below crow greek. all these gars were rolling on top water? They were coming out of water nose first then slapping water with tail. They were so many they coveried from the island to the bank of the main channel. Anyone have a clue as to what they were doing? Maybe spawning? I haven't never seen this from gars.

I've seen such activity in the summer when water heats up and oxygen levels are low. Gar are one of the few fishes that can actually breath air. That's usually what they are doing in the summer, actually coming to the surface and gulping air. However I have no idea why they would do that now... I assure you they are not spawning. They need very warm water for that. Unless there is some sort of unusual situation that caused oxygen levels to get low in that area? Otherwise I have absolutely no idea. emoScratch

Thanks for you reply, thats all i could find on the net also, was maybe dirty water, or not enough oxygen. That would cause them to come to tp and breath air. It's just that there were so many below that island.

I have fished that island many times and there is always a school of gar down at the end..sometimes i think it hurts the fishing down there because i never seem to do any good even though there is some great stumps and logs right down off the point .
