I found this today while scouting a local wma. If appears to of been shot and left or not found by the poachers. I found a stand and a bait site no more than 100 yards from the carcass.

Very fine deer. It appears to have died before rubbing all of the velvet off last fall. The antlers are fully formed, but the nubs on the base of the main beams have not yet been rubbed down. Could it have possibly been a legal archery kill (and loss) with it still in velvet or partial velvet?

No this deer was still rotting. Georgia archery season doesn't open til this saturday.

But I guess Georgia could be different, I don't know the laws down there. It's hard enough to read twra little hunting guide, looks like a kindergartener trying to be a politician wrote that stupid thing up.

The bait site has been reported and the wardens are looking into it. AS for it being shot illegally I don't know for sure I didnt inspect the rib cage to see if any of them were damaged by a bullet or broadhead, but knowing the area and its history I would bet it was illegally taken. Either way it was a waste of a nice buck.

It is illegal to bait in Ga on a wma at any time. Billy you need to let me know where you found that so I don't waist my time in that area. I will probably head to Mashburn rd area Monday morning unless that is where you found him. Don't want to hunt an area where someone is poaching.
