I went and bought my licenses after getting off work Friday morning and called dad to see if he wanted to go fish. We got to the lake about mid day or so...a little late, but he was busy finishing up painting a car and I needed to do some finishing touches on my bow for a tournament this weekend. Anyway...put in at WolfT. It was a packed house. Both parking lots were pretty full, and the roadway was lined with vehicles from folks fishing off the bank. There were quite a few boats sitting there fishing under the bridge and made it tight to get through there.

And that was the case with the whole bay area. It reminded me of going up to trout fish on Tellico river on Saturday morning....bring your own rock to stand on, and own fish to catch too. Hahah. I guess everybody has had enough of the cold temps and was ready to get out. I would have hated to been down there this weekend. It was to the point that boats would pull up and sit and wait on another boat to finish fishing the bank...then go in behind them to try their luck at it.

So what did we do? Well...for the first little bit, we done like everybody else. And thus we rode with the skunk on the boat. Then decided to go do something nobody else was doing. Go deep. Everybody else was banging the banks. We went to a place nobody else was fishing and just running right past. Nothing spectacular about the contour of the bottom other than a slight drop off to a creek channel. We threw a Trap and medium diving cranks for most of the day. Dad caught the first fish, a short LM on the trap. Then a few minutes later I boated my first fish of 2014. A 4 pounder. Then I had one pull drag a couple times and broke me off; my line on the reel was a bit old. I had the new line bought to replace it but figured it could last another trip. That's been changed now :) Not a lot of action as far as catching fish goes...but plenty of action coming in to load the boat, when everybody else was doing the same. Fun times.

Water was in the low 50s. The banks were beat to death and muddy around them from all the boat traffic...either that or from everybody throwing Traps and A-Rigs hahahah. We found several schools of bait fish but nothing seemed to be hanging around them. We have a lot of learning to do on this lake. I thought Watts Bar was bad at times with fishing pressure, but it is nothing compared to Chick.

Congrats. I think I talked to you and your dad Friday. And you had the skunk when I talked to you haha. At least you found a few today. Thanks for the report

I did that same thing this weekend. emoBang Had a pig hit right at the boat with some old line still on my reel from last year. I thought I would change it later but in the back of my mind I was thinking, "I sure hope I don't regret this." Sure enough, it never fails, that was the reel I had a jerk bait on and the hogzila hits right by the boat. It was a quick two seconds she peeled away and before the drag let loose the freaking line breaks. emoHoppingmad Lost the fish with one of my favorite jerks still in it's mouth.

Thanks for sharing your day with us and spending some QT with the old man. emoThumbsup emoThumbsup Jmax
