These repeated cold fronts and north winds have made it tuff for me to find fish so far this spring so we went into CFF#4 flying by the seat of my pants. Decided to make a run to ware branch to start the morning. Took a look at the water temp and the other boats that were already in the back fishing the shallows and decided the fish weren't going to be all the way back there so we started on the right side on the gravel since the bank dropped sharply off into the channel there. Threw a crank and spinner bait for all of about 6 casts and just had a gut feeling so I picked up my Carolina rig, stuck a black and blue 6" zoom lizard on it and hadn't drug it more than 6in when I got our first bite of the morning. We made 2 trips down that bank from the back to the mouth and caught fish the whole length of it just couldn't get anything of size. About 1030 decided to leave and ran back down to the Harrison bay area of the lake without much luck. Decided to go hit the flats near island cove with about 45min left to fish. With 15min left to fish and with only one keeper in the boat we turned the corner a little where the wind was washing over the flat and bam 2nd keeper in the boat. My partner was messing with his tackle in the back and didn't even know I was hooked up til I asked him to move his foot so I could put the fish in the well. 2min left to fish and I finally got a bite that I'd been waiting for. Dragging my lizard along everything just stopped, I froze and just watched my line for a sec and it slowly started to creep off. Took my time and made sure I had every bit of slack out of the line before I hammered a hook set. "Get the net this is a good one" but Ill be dammed if she didn't come straight at me as fast as she could came up just under boat, rolled without breaking the surface, crossed back under the line that I was cranking like crazy to get tight again (I'm surprised the reel wasn't smoking), shook her head and was gone. emoVomit At least she was nice enough to give me a good look at her (nice fat 5-6lber) when I picked up my rig to check the hook I realized that I had messed up on the hook set and had set it to hard. Due to the light or finkey bite I had switched over to a lighter 3O lighter hook instead of the usual 4o heavy offset I usually use and I actually bent the hook when I'd set it. Heart broken I just fell back on the front deck and laid there but my partner tapped me and said cmon we've got 2 we got to make weight in. While she wouldn't have won big fish it would have got us up to about 10.5lbs All in all still had a blast and congrats to everyone that got their limits on a tuff day.

We can all relate, know the feeling. The "what if" feeling is one we have all had if you have fish tournaments for any time. emoBooHoo Thanks for sharing. emoThumbsup Jmax
