Got out for about 2 hrs after work today and managed to get one about 3lbs and also managed to almost run one of these so called pros over. I was coming back down lake from near the plant when one of these guys comes out of one of the cuts on the right wide open points his boat toward Harrison bay and starts running. I thought ok no problem we're going the same direction UNTIL this moron decided to turn 90 degrees toward the flats at the bend in the river channel and drop his boat off plane right infront of me. It was like an idiot on the freeway spotting their exit and deciding to jump 4 lanes of traffic in less than a quarter miles and slamming on their brakes. I managed to dodge his nice shiny wrapped boat buy about 10' but in the process I ended up hitting the huge wake he threw at about 50mph and needless to say my boat is air born. Good thing I was paying attention to him cause he never even looked up or behind him. He had his nose stuck in his dash electronics and had no idea how close he'd came to killing us both until I got my boat under control and ripped him a new arse hole for being a total idiot. Watch yourselves out there guys and watch everyone else twice.

Geez...what a mess, I saw a similar event on Guntersville a pro coming out of the pockets across the lake from Waterfront front punching on his electronics and came out in front of another boat coming up the main lake. The guy never looked up off his electronics and the guy coming up the lake had to cut in behind him and crowd me sitting on the pointing fishing. The guy coming up the channel came back and apologized and told me why he had the cut that close...glad you stayed alert...it is the only thing that could have averted a disaster.

Glad you were paying attention. With the lake getting more crowded by the day we have to keep our head on a swivel it seems.

Since I have been on the water more I've seen some real jerks not paying attention. Look twice or three times to make sure what is going on.

With all the electronics that are out and getting bigger and better, I think it has the same affect as a cell phone in the car. People are simply too distracted to just drive without looking at a phone or in this case; a depth finder. I have to be honest, I find myself driving my boat by GPS at night and sometimes not looking ahead as much as I need to but the lake is not crowded after dark. Thanks for staying alert you're right; you both could've been killed.

So glad you were alert and no one was hurt emoAngel . As has been noted we have the perfect storm here on the Chick. A hot lake with a bunch of national attention for several years that attracts more and more boat traffic. Bass boats that keep getting faster and faster, more and more electronics to distract attention from the water, and more and more non locals who don't know the lay of the lake. I hate to say it but at the rate it is going it is only a matter of time before we have a serious accident that leaves someone or someones maimed or dead. I'm a private pilot and one thing I was taught as I progressed to faster and faster more sophisticated aircraft is this, "Keep your head outside of the airplane - the electronics are nice but your eyes outside the airplane will keep you alive." So it is with our super fast bass rockets that we prowl the lake in. I see it all the time and I have to fight the urge to focus on my wonderful side imaging high definition gear. We have to pay attention and look at for the other guy. I know it isn't popular with many but I think we need to slow down some when it is crowded or windy. I mean running at 50mph is still pretty fast on the water and a whole lot more controllable than say 70. If the lake is pretty deserted and the conditions are good then for sure open it up and let her eat but when you got a lot of people on the water and families with kids and novice boaters we need to exercise caution. Just my opinion - thanks for reading emoParty .

A lot of those pros are just called pros because they fish out of their own boat when in reality they are just another joe running wild on the water

I agree but just to be sure, by joe, you mean prick?
