Mason's ball games have kept us out of any tournaments since the first one back in February. He sat out a game today to fish. I didn't realize that every fisherman in the Tri-state area would be on the lake today, but man it was crowded. I knew exactly where we wanted to start but was positive someone or 5 would be there. Luckily, we pulled up and the place was empty...started thinking that everyone must know something that I didn't. Hadn't been there just a few minutes when I picked up a brush hog Jr, the rod about got yanked out of my hand instantly, felt like a truck....then it felt like a truck doing flips, crap...yep, big catfish. Picked up a spook and started getting some fish. Mostly dinks at first and then a beautiful 7.65 girl. We had a limit within the first 30 minutes and kept catching fish, but couldn't upgrade. Mason was using a 1.5 crank and wailing on them, but mostly small fish. The gale force winds kind of killed my next area. If I had been alone I probably would have tried it, but I like being married and the prospect of Mason falling in the water was pretty high. Moved again and got into another wad of fish and started catching again on a T-rig. Mostly twins of our 2 smaller fish. Was able to cull by a few ounces but that was it. The wind was really packing them in where we were, just couldn't get a bigger fish. Moved just a short distance away and started to see some pretty big fish blowing up on the surface. Told Mason that we were about to win, but those suckers had other thoughts and wouldn't hit anything. A couple of places that had been working were dead, so headed to the last spot that I had been saving. Sure enough, someone is there. Heck, they boated several fish while we were just fishing a small point, waiting for them to leave. They didn't and then time ran out. We actually did better than I thought we would, I didn't weigh our big fish and threw it in the well so fast that I thought it was a 5lber. Still, had a fun day. Could have used about 1000 less boats and about 20mph less winds, but heck, we were fishing so it's a hard to gripe.
