Took advantage of receding flood waters to chase ducks today. Flooded field in north Hamilton County. Didn't get skunked, but should have done better than we did. A pair of wood ducks and an unusual hybrid black duck (black duck crossed with a mallard). I've seen some hybrids much prettier... but he had enough "green" in his head that there was no doubt he had some mixed genes.
We botched one big bunch of mallards right at daylight... they worked a dozen passes and the last one they weren't 20 yards, right over our heads. Me and my buddy were both convinced the next pass would be "feet down." Instead they just left. emoBang Then had another pair try to work later and my buddy called the shot too quick... I suppose what you'd call an inadvertent "skybust."
Didn't shoot when we should have... did shoot when we shouldn't have. And got "burned" by two bunches of wood ducks that we "didn't see comin'" That's duck huntin'! emoSmile
A couple of pretty pictures (with a Photoshop assist) of some of the ones that "didn't get away." Life is good and gettin' better everyday!
